Last January we went on our first family vacation with my 1 year old and 4 year old to the Family Concierge by Paradisus. It was an amazing stay the staff were friendly helpful and the hotel room was clean spacious. We loved it so much we are travelling again this January and would love to experience the same great experience again! I will post again to let everyone know of how our stay was for our 2nd time around!!! Would love to have the same great time and room

We were not informed before we arrived that the main section including all the restaurants and main pool were closed for renovations. That was a huge disappointment! There was only 1 small buffet and 1 al a carte open and 1 snack bar. We stayed in the family concierge. The room was amazing. Very spacious with a walk out to a pool. The area was beautiful. With a nice pool and water area for children. The beach was disappointing. Dirty. Glass in the sand. And lots of weeds/grass. I’ve seen pictures of the beach that looked very different so maybe during the renovations they were not cleaning it?? We have been to Cuba many times before and this was the worst beach we have ever encountered. Needed a good cleaning. Most of the service was very bad. My daughter and I took a kayak out. The guys working there were busy on their phones. And looked up and told us where the life jackets were and then continued in their phones. They didn’t even help us put the kayak In The water. At the snack bar we waited over 2 hrs for our lunch. And served a group of employees first though they had come after us. Our Concierges Flipe (sorry if I spelled your name wrong)and Egle were both amazing and did everything they could to make are stay the best it could be. Special thanks to Egle for all her help and kindness. Also a special thanks to Jonathan for his great customer service. Over all this was a great resort. Once the main section is opened and the beach cleaned I think it will be great! And I would return again.

    One of the BEST!!!

We have been to a few different resorts in Cuba, and Paradisus Varadero is by far the best resort we have been to in Varadero... We have stayed here 4 years in a row, and have no desire to stay anywhere else, we cannot wait to return for New Years this year... The staff here are remarkable and have never received anything but amazing service, having gotten to know many of them, whom we now consider friends... The grounds of this resort are exceptional, with so many gems throughout the property!!! The food at Paradisus Varadero, is by far, the best I have had in any resort in all of Cuba... The Calamari and Fried Chicken at the 24hr is to die for, and the Chicken Fingers and Pumpkin Soup at Belle Mar are awesome!!! The rooms in all 3 sections of the resort are wonderful, again best I have ever experienced in Cuba... The beds are comfortable, and the pillows stuffed (I have had to bring a Walmart pillow from home to other resorts in Cuba)... Yes, some of the furnishings and decor are a bit worn, dated and tired, as are the other resorts... After reading some of the poorer reviews, what people do not understand is that Cuba does not have the same resources as other countries... When furniture becomes worn and dated, management in other places can simply replace the items, this is not at all the case for Cuba... You cannot expect that a 5* Melia Resort in Mexico, will be comparable to a 5* Melia Resort in Cuba... Melia cannot simply send the resources to their resorts in Cuba that bear their name... If you know anything about Cuba, you know that it does not work this way in Cuba... I also read many posts with people complaining about the hotel regarding mosquitos and lizards on the property... This baffles my mind!!! How can the resort be responsible for local wildlife??? I would not hesitate in recommending this resort to anyone, with the understanding that this is not a 5* resort that you may be used to in other countries, but it is definitely a 5* resort in Cuba!!! It is my home away from home, and I cannot wait to return in 17 days!!!

We had to spend the first 5 nights of our holiday at a nearby “sister” hotel until the Paradisus re-opened on 15th November. The new management team had organised a cocktail dinner for guests that evening to celebrate the hotel’s birthday. The food looked delicious but I was unable to eat it due to a stomach disorder contracted at the previous hotel. Managers introduced themselves then and throughout our stay the interacted with guests. At that time the only section of the hotel open was the Reserve. We were allocated a well-equipped suite – sheer luxury. Royal Service re-opened a few days later. Renovations to the original part of the hotel are due to be completed by 15th December with new swimming pools, lobby and snack bar. Photographs of the changes look impressive. Having stayed at this hotel 25 times it was good, over the period of our stay, to see familiar staff returning, some having been out of work since May. At the time of our departure only 2 a la carte restaurants were open – Bana, offering different menus each night and the Bella Mar. Melt-in -the mouth fillet steaks in both. Don’t miss lunch at the Reserve snack bar. Delicious pizzas etc cooked to order and served by very friendly staff. Many thanks to all the staff for making our stay special including the efficient doctor and nurse at the hotel who treated my illness. We wish the Management every success in making the Paradisus Varadero the number 1 hotel in the resort with the very best stretch of palm tree-lined beach. Wishing them and their first- class staff a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. See you in May 2020. A TIP FOR ALL TRAVELLING BACK VIA HAVANA AIRPORT. Cuban currency (CUC) is no longer accepted in the departures lounge. Ensure that you have used all your CUCs before reaching the airport. The queues to change money there are very long! There are rumours that Cuba will cease using CUCs in the future. Take single US dollar bills with you as these are widely accepted and are useful as tips.
