We are staying at this hotel and the last 2 nights between 11.45-12 midnight the fire alarm has gone off. My husband is a safety professional, and believes that they have not maintained or upgraded the system. It is an “old hotel” pending restoration/rebuild.

On our first day in the hotel we left to see Pearl Harbor and while there, all our money was stolen from our room safe. After an investigation the Hotel has refused to accept responsibility. We are out the money and they have chosen to continue to employ a thief and shun their guests. I'd stay somewhere else if I were you.

Overall very happy with our first stay in Hawaii. Shame they have stopped the Lu'au when we arrived. The Pigeons in the resterant was disgusting. On one occasion, a pigeon swooped in on a diners plate when he left table for a short time to top up his drink. His wife had to shoo away the bird. Rooms on the new tower block were a little old, but otherwise all in all, apart for breakfast dining, was not to bad.

    Great location, positives end there

Hotel is located well in the heart of Waikiki, and reasonably clean. But guests are treated like a hindrance, especially if you are not Japanese! Staff do not line questions, even simple ones such locations or using the beach chairs for a day. They have no local knowledge or none they care to share such as public transport etc. the restaurant says seat yourself but don’t expect any service if you sit on the wrong spot - don’t sit in the restaurant area under the umbrellas on a nice day - I was told they only want people undercover near the bar so they don’t have to walk when not busy - it’s 3 tables from the bar. Noise is insane, you can hear everything from hallways and neighboring rooms. But the biggest issue is the noise from the street performers if you have a pool room. This noise carries up in the courtyard from the pool and is louder in your room than on the street. Would not recommend. There are many hotels in the area, find one that’s helpful for your stay.

Our family history of the hotel goes back to 1984. With outstanding service, Princess Kaiulani always welcomed us back. In 1991, we celebrated our honeymoon at the hotel. Over the years, friendly and professional service never changed. It was truly outstanding. In November 2019, we were once again welcomed by staff that went the extra mile to accommodate us. We love the history of Princess Kaiulani and enjoy looking over the photos and memorabilia of this special princess. We had the great pleasure of spending time with staff member Celeste Pagan. She was so knowledgeable of the history of Princess Kaiulani and she shared her passion for the Princess's life. We can only hope that the hotel values this special employee. We hope that in the future, the life story of Princess Kaiulani will remain a focal point of the hotel. Her story MUST be honoured and preserved for future generations.
