We have stayed at Secrets St. James 6 years ago and wanted to return last year for our 20th anniversary but had to postpone due to Covid. We decided to go back in April as we had several preferred nights we wanted to use through the UVC. Even with some things being limited such as the restaurants, and the nightclub being closed, they did a very good job within the confines of COVID. Glad we went back and cannot wait to schedule another trip once we are more post Covid.

We booked two months in advance for a hotel and it was canceled (long story), the very morning we searched for another hotel so we can celebrate at, "Secrets" a hotel we thought would've been out of our financial reach, and one we've always wanted to celebrate at was surprisingly fairly reasonably priced, the per/night, per/couple rate US$307.52, yes it was US$100 more per day than our original booking but hey! this is Secrets. Upon arrival and pleased with the seated check-in we were hit with "I see you booked for breakfast only!" from the reservations representative. WHY OH WHY was it even an option to stay at a resort with breakfast only, our online booking said breakfast included or in some cases free breakfast, I think "BREAKFAST ONLY" would've been more clear as the rep said herself. That left us with canceling the booking which we'd lose 100% of our money, or pay for each additional meal @ US$50 each, or leave the property each time to have lunch and dinner or pay the difference to upgrade to all-inclusive which was our choice for an additional US$187/day. So our US$632.61 trip exploded to a whopping US$1,500 trip for a 3 night/4 day vacation. I could've taken that money and gone on a cruise. The grounds were clean, the room upgrade for our troubles was excellent, staff overall has been great, the meals, however, were not worth all that money spent on the upgrade at all. Watch out for choice words that will mislead you when making your booking.

my girlfriend and I tested positive for covid the day before our trip, so obviously no traveling for us. After getting over the dreadful virus we worked hard at trying to get a credit or ANYTHING for us to stay at secrets st,james again. The resort did nothing for us. We lost ALL of our money. They wouldn't credit it us anything, 50%, 20%, 15% NOTHING. We are two nurses working on a Covid unit that unfortunately got covid while caring for the sick patients. You would think they would be somewhat sympathetic towards that. Its not like we wanted a full refund. Was just trying to use that money a month later to stay with them. Devastated is an understatement

Decided to take a spring break vacation and opted for Jamaica since it’s been 10+ years since we had been there. We are members of the vacation club and just enjoy relaxing on our vacation. We aren’t big into site seeing other than watching the “waves” crash up to the shore. We aren’t high maintenance travelers. We just ask for a clean room, comfortable bed and something decent to eat at each meal. Also we are members of the vacation club. We chose St James on some advice vs Wild Orchid. While 2 different resorts they are one in the same but St James was a little less expensive. Wild Orchid is closer to the restaurants and has a nice view of the mountains but if you have preferred privileges you can park your towel anywhere. We typically never sit at the preferred section, particularly the pool but this time we did. We enjoyed the relative quiet. It was very relaxing. In addition, with preferred privileges you get access to Breathless which gives you even more restaurants to choose from. We never ate at the same restaurant for dinner the whole week which was really nice. Weather was beautiful. The service was excellent. Everyone was super friendly. There was plenty of entertainment every night. Most of it was outdoor but they had a silent disco indoors but we didn’t get around to attending it. There is even a piano bar. Additionally there is even more entertainment over at Breathless that you can attend. Ocean was crystal clear. You can see a few fish snorkeling but not a lot, at least on the days I went. We got an 80 min massage but services are limited due to Covid. No hydrotherapy ??. We love the hydrotherapy. Will have to wait until June for our next vacation. View from rooftop restaurant at Breathless is breathtaking. Highly recommend getting over there for lunch. Beautiful resort. We will get back there at some point for sure. Off to the Dreams in Curacao in June.

The resorts bellhop stole my jewelry from inside my bag and when I reported it to loss prevention they took my information to investigate and contact me and have yet to do so. Don’t leave you stuff alone or at the front desk.
