Great resort, beautiful beach, clean rooms and great staff. Food is great too especially the bbq. Lots of games to play during the day and at night the club is open every night. 24 hour bar as well for people that like to drink.

    Overall a Good Experience

We didn't go to the resort having very high expectations but overall we had a great time. The food variety was pretty descent. The beach and the pool were both very nice. Some of the staff were nice and some seemed very greedy (if you wouldn't tip them they would give you an attitude). The resort was very clean and well-maintained. 90% of the tourists were Russians surprisingly. I would go back to this resort given the fair price that we paid.

The resort is constantly being cleaned and restocked. Staff was friendly and helpful. My husband's sandal broke a few days in to the trip. We were able to get it glued and back in our room by the same afternoon. We had coffee and bottled water to use in our room everyday. The reception desk handles check in/out, $ exchange, requests/complaints 24/7. The toilet in our room clogged, that was looked after within an hour of telling the front desk.. When we went to the buffet we always were seated quickly, water, coffee, wine brought over immediately (thanks Lenin) and there was no shortage of food. There are 2 a LA care restaurants: Rachon, Cuban food which we went to twice. The food, taste and presentation was excellent and the staff was constantly present without being intrusive. We felt welcome and comfortable enough to ask questions about the menu. It was a relaxing atmosphere . The other a la carte is called Varadero 1887. Depending on the night their menu is Italian or international . We tried both and were extremely disappointed both times. The staff filled our water and wine right away but didn't come around again to offer refills. The food lacked flavor and the presentation was just as bad. We didn't feel welcome at all in this restaurant and considered going to the buffet after. There's a live band near the lobby bar every night as well as entertainment at the outdoor theater or the pool. During the day the entertainment staff leads different activities/games. We took the "hop on hop off" which is a double decker bus that costs $5 pesos pp for the day. It's a great way to get into main street varadero. We walked and explored the various shops and restaurants. We also stayed on past our hotel to just sightsee. There are bicycles and scooters for rent. If you want to do excursions there's always somebody in the lobby to help with that. We would definitely consider staying there again.

We traveled here last week. Last time I had came to Cuba was around 17 years ago, & didn't have any expectations going here, just that as a family of 4 we needed some time to unwind & relax from our daily routine. Pros: The beach is great, water is warm, lots of shade available throughout the day, they have ample beach chairs for everyone. Very clean property overall, a few plastic glasses here & there, but normal for an all inclusive, lots of disposal bins everywhere (it clearly helps) The pool, very clean throughout the day, a few tiles missing here & there, but no biggie, kids loved it, very big, never felt crowded Coffee bar, before arriving I had doubts about this reading reviews, but I now concur, it is a major asset of this hotel. Quick service, nice choice of regular coffee, espresso or alcoholic coffees. Really good taste! Cons: The food was my biggest fear reading reviews, but finally it wasn't that bad. Not good taste wise, but edible. À la carte restaurants are a good change from the buffet, but recipes are weird!! (A minestrone soup is not cream of vegetable with cut green beans & rice in it....) I heard from others that food in resorts is pretty much the same everywhere in Cuba, so you can't really say it's a con only for this hotel. Nobody got sick from food or anything during our stay. The rooms, very basic, furniture have chips, some old mold stains on wall near A/C, but expected in warm & humid environment. We asked to change room & after looking at the other one it wasn't really better, so we kept our old room after all, we just slept & took our showers there. Very surprised that so many of the staff spoke French. So basically, for the price we paid this hotel was worth it. It's a 4 star hotel, but you need to factor in this is the equivalent of a 3 star hotel in any other Caribbean destination. Quick tips : Bring your own condiments (hot sauce, ketchup, mustard, peanut butter etc, etc...) there is hardly any of this at the resort & food is bland. Bring in some old kids clothes or school supplies to give to staff as tips, learned this is what they really need.
