Amazing staff who made me feel home away from home!

The staff really made our trip! It was like welcoming us into their home! Especially Mercedes, Carlos, Arantza, Alfonso, Daniel, Genaro, and Javier! You HAVE TO take the bike tour and check out the Mayan Ruins you would have otherwise rode right past! I suggest trying all of the restaurants. With their Michelin Star Chef's menu, I tried (and enjoyed) things I never would have tried otherwise. The food was amazing. We spent every night dancing the night away even though at that time the club was closed, they still had live entertainment that took requests! The staff did a great job of entertaining us. They even had a tequila tasting! We had a sunset view room and it was so charming to wake up to that view every morning on our porch. The rooms are really spacious with doors to section off the toilet and also the bathroom, so lots of privacy for friends traveling together. You also have your own receptionist in each villa to easily arrange dinner reservations, answer questions, etc. I highly recommend this spot to anyone who wants just chill or those that want to adventure. The main area of Playa Del Carmen was just a 15 minute walk down the road. If it's your first time in Mexico, this is a great spot to go. It's a gated community in Playacar which adds a level of peace of mind to those that are first timers.

    Fifteenth visit. A solid 4-stars, not 5.

This was our 15th stay at Royal Hideaway dating back to 1999. The place has aged a lot and it is not the crown jewel it once was. The buildings have aged. The rooms (they are NOT suites) are dated. The grounds remain beautiful, but not as beautiful as in the past. As always, the staff were eager to please. But they seemed to be unduly stressed and overwhelmed. Service times were slower. Oner got the feeling the place was operating with the minimal number of personnel possible. There were no concierges at the individual buildings. No turn-down service. But at the time of our visit (May 2021) the hotel was at 50% occupancy and still emerging from last year's catastrophic 7-month shutdown, as well as the double-punch of back-to-back hurricanes (Delta and Zeta in October 2020.) So that the resort is experience some emergence pains is very understandable. The staff we interacted most with--Luis at the beach, Paula and Jessica at the spa (VERY good massages!), Milca Linares and Gerardo Fonseca at The Grill--were attentive and helpful. Of course Manuel, the stalwart Bell Captain, welcomed us eagerly and we are always glad to see his smiling face when we arrive. Do I recommend Royal Hideaway? Absolutely yes! It has the the Big Four things we look for in a beach resort: 1) a BEACH! 2) All-inclusive. 3) Adults only. 4) Easy to get to from the States.

The Royal Hideaway was the first adults only all inclusive resort we’ve stayed at and it set a high bar. The grounds are beautifully kept with a good ratio of space to quest that gave it a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. The food was very good while at times difficult to schedule diners with current restrictions. There was a good selection of drinks to help relax by the pool, wade in the ocean, or dance and mingle at the bar. But what really made our stay rememberable was the staff. We took note of several of the staff that made us feel like family. Carlos, with his bike tours and aqua gym; Miguel, our concierge who helped us plan our excursions and meals and dealt with fixing occasional room issues; Gustavo, who taught us to sail a catamaran; Daniel Pat who help us with our Spanish; and our many waiters and house keeping.

Highly recommend this place to any couples that want to be in a smaller more personal/secluded resort. Easy to find everything and the staff always were looking to make our stay better. The food was 5 star at every restaurant and even the buffet style meals were luxurious!

    Uncomfortable Humid Room

We stayed at the Royal Hideaway in Playacar. We got 2 rooms. Our room wouldn't get cold air and it was a humid 72 degrees. Our beds felt wet. We had 3 uncomfortable nights. The other room felt great though. Nice and cold. We asked for the thermostat to get lower as they seem to get locked and although maintenance did come and tried to fix it, they were not able to. I asked if we could borrow a floor fan and was told none are available. I also asked to see if we could move to another room and was told that there were no other rooms available and that the only one I could get was an extra $220 plus dollars a night. I skipped. Other than that everything was perfect. Great food, amazing service and great drinks. This was my second time back at the Hideaway but now I'm a little concerned on what room I will get. It may seemed that we are just spoiled but I keep my thermostat at 65 degrees all year in cold Minnesota. Bottom line, a vacation should be relaxing.whether you go to a fancy resort or a motel 8.
