Staying at the Ocean Riviera Paradise

JorgeMontreal (Montreal) on Apr 27, 2024

Mot of the people give a 5 stars, I really enjoyed my stay at this resort, hotel however I do not think it deserves a 5, I would say 4 stars. I would have rated with a 5 if all food were delicious, they were a 5 stars at the fining restaurant, and 3,5 or 4 stars at the buffet restaurant. Do i recommend it, yes, I will, it is a nice 4 star stay

STAY AWAY FOR YOUR SAFETY!!!

DO NOT GO HERE!! My girlfriend and I planned this trip in October and we were very excited. We had a wonderful first 3 days. On the 4th day we were having a few drinks (3-4) by the swim up bar in El Besos. We then went back to our room and had about a 3 hour nap before going for dinner. This is where I do not remember anything from the rest of the day. When we woke up I was not feeling like myself, I was falling over and slurring my speech, after about an hour of struggling to walk around the resort we returned to the room where I started getting sick profusely. I woke up around 10:00 that night and asked my girlfriend what was going on and that is when she told me about all of this. After doing a little bit of research and speaking with the doctor that works at the resort we realized that I had been drugged. We never left our drinks unattended and always received them straight from the bartenders and went right back to where we were sitting by the pool. This tells me that it was one of the staff members from the swim up bar. We went to guest services to report the incident today and first they told us there’s nothing they could do because “there’s not enough reports of something like this” then they said they can’t look into it unless the police are involved and then it was they can’t look into it unless we reported it on the day the incident occurred. So what’s it going to be? Got multiple different excuses from multiple different people. Whatever you do, DO NOT GO TO THIS RESORT. We will not be returning here and will make sure everyone we know does not have the same experience we did Also the food is awful

Will definitely return

We booked the privilege stay, I would definitely recommend. Check in was lovely, we was provided a drink and introduced to our butler who took his to our room. We didn't require the butler service really throughout the stay but it was nice to know they were available. The room was lovely, cleaned every day and the mini bar stocked daily, we were left bottles of wine and Prosecco. We booked into different restaurants most evenings, the food has been fantastic, Route 66 was so much better than I expected. They only criticism I have is they do not seem to have air con in the restaurants and bowling alley. The evenings are warm and this really would have been helpful. In terms of entertainment there was lots going on around the complex. The fire show was brilliant. There were so many bars that you could never get bored. There is wildlife walking around the hotel but this made our experience all the better. We loved seeing the monkeys. Staff were kind and helpful. Especially Carlos at the privilege restaurant. We read reviews regarding the beach and were concerned. There is a beach which is lovely to walk along. The water did have a lot of seaweed however, it was lovely and clear of you walked further in. We came on our honeymoon from the Uk. We are already looking to come back with our children.

Please do NOT ignore this warning!

This is definitely NOT a 5-star resort; instead, I would rate the hotel as a weak 2/5 for several reasons....... First, the staff at 'paradise' made my stay a living hell because not only did they fail to show me to my room when I arrived on April 19th/24 @ 7pm-----which left me wandering around exhausted, hot, and hungry, asking people who didn't even work there where it might be-----but they also neglected to warn me----along with every other guest it seemed--- that the lemurs that run wild on the property have the ability to break into your room via the LOCKED sliding door! Yes, this is how I was rudely awakened that first morning.. April 20th/24! At approx 0500 hrs., a large obnoxious bang shook my room as a lemur had broken in! Needless to say, my screams were loud enough to wake the dead. However, when I called the front desk, no one answered. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, NO ONE from the front desk ever answers. I got dressed and marched to the lobby to find two very uninterested hotel workers sitting there. My first question was, "Are your phones broken?" After several clarifications, one of them finally understood (somewhat) my question and said, "No..si, si, .the phone is working". I then asked, "Why didn't you answer when I called?" [The entire lobby was empty, it's not like they had a huge influx of new check-ins]. Communicating with staff at this resort was unbearable as they did not understand anything beyond, "Washroom?" I don't understand why a resort whose customers are predominantly English speaking won't bother to invest in communicating with them appropriately through their staff members. But, at the same time, this resort pays its workers a measly $10 USD per day! Secondly, when I arrived, I was separated from my one large piece of luggage and promised that it would be brought to my room immediately. It was not. For whatever reason, my luggage had been placed in storage!!!! Thirdly, the FOOD AT PARADISE presents a serious threat because it is not properly maintained especially at the buffet. At the buffet---any buffet-----the food must be kept at 140 F, (60 degrees Celsius) or warmer, while the cold food needs to be kept at 40 F, (4.4 degrees Celsius) or colder. Neither appropriate food handling was accomplished at 'paradise'. Instead, what eventually happened is that the bacteria that grew at a rapid rate at this buffet, entered my body through its contaminated food and finally affected me in the stereotypical Mexican manner by day 5 which meant that I had severe abdominal pains and diarrhea to take come with me. Fourthly, while I understand that the way this resort is set up can't be changed with all of its buildings, pools, bars, restaurants, and beach spread far apart, but how about having more than one shuttle/train to transport exhausted, dehydrated, and extremely hot customers from one end of the compound to the other??? When I was there yesterday, only one shuttle for the 'non-privilege' customers ran up and down the property every 30-35 minutes. Officially, they claim '10-15 minutes' but that is not true. The other smaller shuttles are specifically for the "tour" customers that will not stop for anyone other than those paying extra for something done off the resort.. What really bothered me though is that even though more often than not, these smaller shuttles (more like slightly glorified golf carts) generally had two staff members laughing and carrying on in them and no passengers, under no circumstances would they stop and pick anyone up along the way even on the hottest days. Fifthly, there is only one place on this massive property that provides relatively decent coffee---- "Mike's Coffee". So, what this means is that at approx. 0730 hrs., their doors open to a line up that is at least 25 people long. Two over-worked but usually pleasant resort baristas provide a limited version of specialty coffees to a desperate group of people who had no idea that an alleged 5-star resort would provide a flimsy Mr. Coffee maker in their rooms with teabag versions of coffee rather than the standard Keurig or Nespresso. So, at 0730 hrs.---instead of 5 or 6 am--- this one lone coffee shop is forced to accommodate a group of hungover or simply caffeine-addicted individuals at a Caribbean non-Starbucks pace. Needless to say, this morning ritual aggravated me to no end and started my day with a bitter taste in my mouth. Final thoughts: If after reading my condensed review you still decide to go to this place, at least I have warned you in the only way I could...I feel like I needed to be completely honest about what it was like at 'paradise' because it was sheer HELL. In fact, this was the first time in my life where I was EXCITED to be going home!!!!
