Solid Choice for Palm Springs. Older Hotel; Great Location

Decent older hotel that is about a 10 minute walk away from the main strip in Palm Springs. Great pool that can be crowded, but at the end of the day, my wife and I always found a spot and enjoyed cooling off in the pool. Didn't love the super cloudy water coming out of the faucet in the room, but their note explained because "it's desert water. " None of the free computers just off the lobby area seemed to work properly. (If you ran a hotel, wouldn't you have someone check the computers daily to make sure they were working reasonably well?) As a hotel guest I fully understood that my experience during Covid may not have reflected what it's like to stay at this hotel during normal hotel times. Hate the added "resort fee" and one day consumers have to push back. Not sure how, but hoping someone will come up with fees included in the base rate. Resort fees are a complete ripoff that screw consumers (and hotels don't have to pay commissions on to travel agents/booking services, the revenue goes right to their bottom line.) Resort fees are a scourge on the traveling public. I mean I'm paying a premium to stay at a resort, so why hit me with a fee, right?

When I arrived, I called and asked for a shuttle pickup only to be told the shuttle wasn't operating because of Covid. Got a nice room with a fantastic view of the mountains. I was jet lagged so bought a discounted overpriced sandwich from the lobby store complete with hard stale bread to tide myself over to breakfast. Frankly - not good. The grab and go breakfast looked equally disappointing and overpriced. I went out to eat. The next night went back down and saw the sandwiches in the shop had been restocked, forked over $12 for another one and figured it would be OK, this one was the perfect combo of stale bread and wet & soggy in the corners. Annoying and easily fixable. On the day I left, as I headed down to the lobby early morning I tried to get an Uber and a Lyft to no avail. I then called the taxi and they said there weren't any cabs that morning. When I asked - I was told the shuttle was only for air crew, trying not To panic, Steven at the front desk just looked and me and said "don't worry, we'll get you there..." They did by allowing the airline crew shuttle to take me. Overall, I liked to hotel and I especially appreciate Steven and the early morning shuttle driver. The F+B seems a bit off given the pandemic, but please revisit your lobby store sandwich strategy! (Cling wrap might do the trick). Thank you for a good stay.

    Marriott should be embarrassed

Marriott should be embarrassed to have this hotel under their "Renaissance" brand, it's more like a select service property, a deceptive one at that: - They advertise no resort fee, but make it up with a $35/night self parking fee - No shower gel in the room or even available upon request. Mouthwash is only available for sale in the pantry. - Elite members don't get breakfast during COVID, even though they sell a breakfast by the pool. - Since there is no housekeeping during your stay, the hotel has conveniently put large concert/outdoor event style cardboard trash cans throughout the hotel - likely another way to cut costs of needing staff to empty on a regular basis. Marriott can do better and so can you by staying elsewhere.

Spring Break Review For Family Of 3

Two adults with a 9-year old child stayed 4 nights for Spring Break. Note we are Marriott Platinum Elite and got upgraded to a Resort Suite. Location is great and you can walk or 2 minute drive to main downtown with tons of dining and shopping. Service was 4 star but little issues outlined below drag it down to a 3 star review. We were told upon check out that we qualified for the discounted parking rate of $25 due to our Marriott status, but no parking was charged on the bill at checkout, normal rate is stated at $35 per night. Overall the property is just a bit dated in the public areas. Gates and railings are worn, some light fixtures in the halls were not working or had old bulbs. Inside our room was fine, but the sliding glass door would not lock and was pretty old (was not a safety issue since we were on the top floor). Nice recent furnishings and super comfortable king-size bed. We were at the end of the hall so super quiet as well for a good night's sleep. Staff definitely well trained and did their best. Hotel was sold out so pool seating was at a premium; you had to get inline by 9am when it opened to get a good set up. Unfortunately food and beverage options were limited to pre-packed foods and grilled items only. Pool staff kept drinks flowing but only from 11am on. COVID review - so no bell hops to assist with luggage, trash bins at times were overflowing since everyone was getting lunch and dinner delivered and there was a strange absence of large trash receptacles in public places. No maid service is given for safety protocols.

Alexandra at the front desk was awesome. Staff are really nice. I had an issue with the fridge and shower temp and they moved me right away. The pool was huge and fun, great drinks, especially the frozen cocktails! The rooms are clean and bed was super comfy. Very close (10 min walk) to shops and restaurants. Great little getaway!
