The staff was excellent, very nice and friendly. They made us feel as at home. We had the priviledged food and it was really a first class, really delicious and fresh. The beach was wonderful, very clean, safe and comfortable. The resort was well located and surrounded by tropical rainforest inhabited by coatis, squirrels and brids. It was wonderfull. There were some free time activities like voleyball, aqua gym, petanque and others and we really deeply relaxed and enjoyed it. It the resort, we could borrow the padleboard, kayak and snorkelling and we tried diving in the pool. Later on we paid a diving in the see.

    Great Experience!

Sparkling clean everywhere, friendly and helpful staff, beautiful grounds. All around, a wonderful resort! The mangroves and rainforest feel right in the resort along with animals like Coati and the Yucatan Jays was awesome. With the exception of Sorrento and Adelitas, the food leaves something to be desired. Using Privilege Benefits and eating at BLoved for 3/4 of our meals saved it - phenomenal food!! We enjoyed a romantic dinner on the beach, massages and a birding private tour and spent most of our time relaxing by pool and beach. Our room was clean and comfortable but average. Overall, a wonderful resort and stay!

We can’t say enough positive things about this place! We are ETC members of the resort, and our entire concierge staff: Dulce, Lenis, and Alejandro made everything special and took care of our every need. Daniel, in the front desk was also very helpful in making everything run smoothly! Throughout the resort, the entire staff wore full face coverings, including many in face shields as well. FOOD: Chef Ivan made incredible meals in the Palapa! I am vegetarian and gluten free, but this was never an issue. He and the entire restaurant team there (Quetzabel, Carlos, Sandy, and company) were fabulous. Highlights included veggie tostadas (see photo), veggie ceviche, and chèvre stuffed enchiladas with molé from Oaxaca. If I wanted something unique, they were happy to oblige. Julio and his team (Rosario, Roberto, Carlos I, Carlos II, and Javier) in Taocat and Terrace restaurants were amazing and made romantic dining effortless. Beloved is always wonderful, and we love dining on the beach in the sea air! Argel, David, Fanny, Juan, Luis, Naviel, and the whole team...they were so kind and thoughtful. All of these places served meals out of doors, which we really appreciated. Although the offered socially distanced seating as well, we opted not to eat at Toscana (Italian), The Steakhouse, or Adelita (Mexican) Restaurants simply because they were indoors. But the ceilings in these restaurants were 20 ft or more, so if you’re less worried, then you’ll be fine. BEACHES The beaches were pristine! Virtually no seaweed, and beautiful water every day!!! The staff sanitized all of the beds daily while we were there, and they had hand (and shoe!) sanitizing stations everywhere! We wore masks the entire time we were in closer contact with others, but felt very safe because if the attention to detail with social distancing, etc. We did not wear masks on the beach, during meals, or in our rooms. I’d say that 30% of the guests did the same. AIRPORT Inbound immigration and customs were a breeze....again, we felt very safe, as social distancing and masks were enforced. Our return was less smooth: it was crowded and it was very difficult to enforce social distancing at security. But, we waited in line for less than 15 minutes, so that was a small consolation. We hope to return in March/April and take in more of the beautiful Mayan Sun! Right now, the resort is at 20-30% capacity (less than 200 guests)...so you’ll never see it so empty! We really did feel like we had the beach to ourselves! Thank you again to the entire CRT staff!!! ????????. Esperamos verlos pronto!

Great resort with some areas for improvement

I travelled to Catalonia Royal Tulum in December of 2020 with 2 friends. We booked privileged rooms and had a wonderful time. Was this resort perfect? No, but for the price we thought it was pretty great. The staff is very friendly and efficient throughout the resort. The only issue we had is that there were a couple of evenings when our room was not turned down, which isn't that big of a deal except that that's when they replace the beach towels, so I had to call to the front desk to get them replaced. It would be nice if there was a beach towel station at the pool where guests could replace their towels but the only way to get towels replaced is to wait for the turndown service at night, or call the front desk to get someone to bring them to your room. You could also take them to the front desk to get them replaced, but they didn't seem to prefer that. The beach is really, really beautiful at this resort and most days during our stay the water was calm with gentle rolling waves. Fun to bring some kind of flotation device. I recommend a floating hammock which you can get on Amazon. I used it in the ocean and the pool and it was great! The pool is super large and beautiful with a swim-up bar in the middle, which was fun. It's not heated, so the pool was a bit chilly in December. Wish they would heat it a little just to take the chill off. Food was - for the most part - good to great. Of course there were a couple instances during our stay where we were disappointed, but overall I was impressed with the quality of food everywhere in the resort. There was inconsistency with portion size, though. Generally portions were normal/adequate, but there were instances where they were miniscule - so small that we actually busted out laughing, for example being served 3 small ravioli in the Italian restaurant as an entree (ravioli that are about 1.5 inches in size). We laughed about that all night. Good thing I had a couple appetizers or I would have left hungry! Unlike others, we weren't that impressed with BLoved. The food was very good, but it didn't seem better than the other restaurants and portions were miniscule. I was particularly disappointed with the one breakfast I ate there. I ordered a Mexican dish and it was very bland and under-seasoned. I personally do not think the privilege package is worth the money because the main thing you get is BLoved and it just wasn't really better than the other restaurants (in my opinion). But others may disagree. The room was modern and comfortable and it was nice to have the re-stocked mini bar. It included sodas, beer (I think), water, juice, a couple packages of Oreos, a package of nuts and 2 bags of potato chips. It was restocked daily. Unlike many beds in Mexico, the beds at this resort were pretty comfortable, although the linens and pillows were of a lower quality. We went during Covid and staff throughout the resort were uniformly masked and the waiters in the restaurants usually had double masks on (fabric mask and a plastic face shield). For the most part, it appeared that social distancing protocols were in place, although we did see some people ignoring them. I saw a lot of staff cleaning and disinfecting throughout the resort. Drinks were okay, although as others have commented, the mixers they use are pretty bad. I had a daquiri that I couldn't even drink because it tasted medicinal, like cough syrup. The resort would do well to invest a little money in higher quality mixers. We enjoyed seeing the coati throughout the resort - little animals that resemble a cross between a raccoon and an anteater. Guests, please don't feed them. They are wild animals and should stay wild and people are training them to beg. Note: if you are carrying food, they will come after you. I had one climb on me trying to get into my beach bag because I had a peanut wrapper in there! He latched onto my beach bag and I had a hard time getting him off! I like that this resort is smaller and doesn't have a big, sterile corporate feel. It feels very tropical, set in the dense jungle, with the long wooden walkway meandering through it, so many birds, coatis and some iguanas around. The resort feels intimate and relaxed. No, it's not a resort you go for a lot of activity and entertainment, although there was some of that and it was generally very good. It's a quieter resort and is good for people who want a more relaxed experience. And no kids!!! YAY! Although I have outlined some areas for improvement in this review, I would say that overall I was very impressed and really enjoyed my stay at CRT. I would definitely recommend it and I liked it so much, I am already planning a return trip! A special shout out to the lovely hostess at Palapa Restaurant. Her name begins with Q (sorry, can't remember how it's spelled). She was the most outstanding employee I encountered - so welcoming, warm and friendly. She made a point to learn my name and I am sure she does that with other guests too, which is an impressive feat, given how many people she meets every day and every week. One more note: because of reduced capacity of the resort during Covid, a select number of restaurants were open each night and a couple were closed. They rotated the restaurants, so throughout our stay we got to try all of them. They all were consistently good. One improvement I would recommend is posting a sign somewhere that states which restaurants are open every night. We never knew and had to ask at the front desk. Not a big deal, but a minor inconvenience that is easily rectified.
