We found the hotel to be very clean and for us an excellent location to Central Park just few hundred metres away and transport was even closer. The room was spacious enough and good facilities. The staff ably attended to our requests and we were very glad to have a hotel in close proximity to restaurants and various styles of eateries. The Hotel staff were very helpful with directions and advise. We easily handled the subway and had no need at any time to use a yellow taxi. We did not have breakfast at the hotel but chose to walk not far to various small cafe's - in ample supply in the area. Would stay again

On our return trip to Boston area we made a 2 day stop in Manhattan's upper West Side to the Hotel Excelsior. This is one of our favorite places to stay in the city. The quality of the service and care that has been taken with this property is outstanding. This is a must booking if you will be in NYC for Thanksgiving. The parade stars right at the museum across the street and the place is hopping all night. This trip was to visit a relative and as usual 1st class from start to finish.

    Great location and very comfortable

We had a room on the 12th floor, overlooking the museum of natural history. The room was probably one of their smallest, with just one queen bed, but I have stayed in much smaller in Manhattan. The bathroom was newly decorated and altogether we were very comfortable. The hallways and the room were rather hot and we slept with the windows open all night. That was a real difference between staying in mid-town and the upper west side, the latter is much quieter. There is an air-conditioning/heating unit, but it is a little noisy, so we were glad just to open the windows. The breakfast buffet was fine - normal fare - but not available on Monday and Tuesday. We went around the corner to a breakfast place. There is a large associated restaurant (didn't eat there) and a very nice bar. Best thing was that we could park our car for $30/day (amazing for NYC) in the museum parking lot across the street. I would DEFINITELY stay at the hotel again. Loved being in this location. Good internet and a nice exercise room.

So stayed in the Excelsior Hotel on 45 w81 and i was not overly impressed with the customer service skills of your staffs especially at the reception. While checking out, man at the desk would not even say goodbye, hello, how was your stay, nothing. It was as if we were a burden to him and that our money and custom was not good enough. Wont be rushing back for a next visit or neither would i recommend it as this was on a daily basis whenever we would enter or leave the hotel. In fact your staff who carry bags for customers outside are more polite. New york is big and the competition fierce, so tell your staff to slap a smile on their faces as its because of customers they are in a job.

    Good location but serious flaws

Three couples stayed here for Beacon theater show and UWS stay. Biggest complaint is screaming water pipes whenever guests in other rooms around you are showering, even at 5am. Also, the most awkward free AM coffee service ever— the coffee pods are at front desk, I guess so that you cannot hoard them, and then you proceed, one at a time into what used to be a telephone space? A confessional? To use the coffeemaker. Dumb. Also, the grumpy breakfast hostess pushed us for our breakfast discount vouchers, even though the discount applies to all guests under the stupid mandatory daily fee. Also, when getting out of the car to check in, in their only loading zone space, I smashed my car door into a concrete planter located there below eye level. Grrrr. The front desk person was nice and upgraded us but general manager could not have been less sympathetic. Beware the stupid planter!
