Vacation in Paradise that we absolutely loved!

Nancy T (Langley, Canada) on Apr 26, 2024

We vacationed here for 10 days in April, 2024. It was an amazing resort, including staff, food and amenities. The dining options were great, our favorites were the Grill (amazing steak) and the Italian, but the buffet was always great. We enjoyed the pool, the beautiful beach, volleyball and the Mexican night dancing show. The lush green setting added to the romantic, peaceful and quiet setting. It was perfect overall. Some of the many staff that were excellent include Carlos, Quetzabel, Yolanda,Jesus, Carmen, Astrid....and our lovely server at the Tequilla bar. Thank you all!

We joined the animation of Catalonia’s village and we liked it very much. We stayed here for a week and we did some games like volleyball and olimpic games. We played with Georgina, Paulina, Gioele, Regina, Mike and Shamed. Thank you very much, see you next time!

Lovely resort...but not likely to go back

whippet1Toronto (Toronto, Canada) on Apr 25, 2024

To start off, this is a beautiful Resort and as many people have suggested, it isn't a party resort. It was a bit more busy than I would have liked at this time of year and there were activities around the pool that did get very noisy but not for long. The grounds are gorgeous and well taken care of. I was very impressed with two of the ala carte restaurants. The grill and Toscana were excellent and the food was delicious and well prepared. The Mexican was not my favorite at all and the buffet was a complete disappointment. I did upgrade when I arrived and enjoyed lunches and a few dinners at Bloved. Also had lunch at the snack bar which was a good experience and nice to sit in a shady place. But, I would really have to think long and hard again about going back based on an unfortunate experience I had at the end of my trip. I feel bad about mentioning it, but on the other hand, it was something that I was told by security that had happened to others previously. The resolution was nothing and the resort offered nothing. What had happened was someone let themselves into my safe in the room and they went into my wallet and took out US money. And it is for this very reason that I would most likely not go back again. On top of the theft, they also had access to my credit card numbers and my passport information. So when they call it a room safe, it really isn't because your passcode isn't the only way to get into the safe.

Mid at best; wouldn't return in the future.

After several years off from international vacations because of covid, this first excursion back to Cancun was overall a let down. Catalonia Royal Tulum doesn't get my endorsement for other vacationers to go to and I recommend going elsewhere for your southern Riviera Maya stays. Food: The biggest disappointment of all. Mediocre quality and choices with menu choices hidden behind a paywall of exclusive travel club membership. Steaks were lowest quality, extremely tough even when cooked at medium rare and sirloins passed off as tenderloins is a huge bust. The buffet was okay and only open for dinner one night a week. Reservations required for all other restaurants which I imagine is to help control the flow of dinner tickets but still unnecessary with the amount of diners each night present. Their Spanish tapas restaurant was by far the worst and that was horrible seeing how this is a Spanish company who prides themselves on being a leading resort company headquartered out of Europe. The Mexican restaurant on the other hand was their best and should be eaten at every night as it offers an appertif cocktail, chips and salsas, and a great variety of local and national menu items. Atmosphere: The resort itself is beautiful and surrounded by lush jungle, inhabited with native coati that'll run around you during the day, love being fed grapes and are playful with each other. The beach was gorgeous, crystal waters, and plenty of lounge space. The cons though are no protection from the beach merchants all up in your grill selling silver, hats and bracelets every 10 minutes weaving in and out of the rows of chairs and talking it up with staff. The lack of a beach bar is sad and instead it's a juice bar; waste of space honestly. Not enough service staff on the beach either for drinks. As for the entertainment, I can't complain because this resort has a fantastic team who will keep you happy and alive the entire time and actively engaged for sure. Whether it's at the pool, the beach, Rauxa or night time activities, expect to something going on for sure. As for that pool, if you want a chair, claim it early because the resort guests will claim it before you, walk away, and not come back for hours and no staff will enforce the non-use of chairs at all. Even the Catalonia lead concierge Jose admitted it's a problem that they're "working on" but I didn't believe that for one bit because really, he's just there to sell the exclusive travel club membership. Final thoughts; I wish it were better really. I was entertained but left wanting more with the food. My time at the beach was lovely but my disappointment after my meals was enough to say no more and not again. Thanks, but no thanks Catalonia. No ETC for me!
