8th Time - Different Experience Post-Pandemic But Still Wonderful

My wife and I visited the Valentin for our 8th time 04/24-05/01/2021 - a much-needed week of R&R after the past year. While there were many changes, the reasons we come back year after year were still there - wonderful staff and service, a beautiful and well-maintained resort, and the gorgeous, great food, an ocean-front suite, and the gorgeous private beach experience. The hotel was at about 50% capacity. With the lower number of visitors and much reduced entertainment (no evening shows except for open-air music in the plaza (we particularly enjoyed Di Canto, although they've had some personnel changes), no live music in the restaurants or in Don Miguel (Yan Kayary, we really miss you!), it was often eerily quiet. We never had a wait for dinner, even for patio seating. All the staff wore masks (and sometimes also face shields), although visitors generally did not. It was strange to not have buffet breakfasts and lunches at Mar y Tierra, and while we missed the large variety and ability to personally customize/create, the ala carte experience was very nice as well (although choices were more limited and attempts to customize didn't always work). It was also strange to have no paper at all - no hardcopy menus (you access them digitally via QR code), no daily journals, no daily weather forecasts, no newspapers, no local tourism books in the room, no shelves of available books at the concierge. But we adjusted well. The mandatory antigen testing for return to the United States was very efficiently run; we had our results electronically within a few hours and in hardcopy the next day. The resort was hit hard last year, both by the pandemic (totally shut down for about 3 months) and by two hurricanes in close succession in the fall, which did considerable damage (while everything had been repaired as much as possible, you could see the effect on palm trees and landscaping). While the resort unfortunately had to lay off a sizable number of employees, they haver rehired (although they're still not back to full employment level). We greatly admired the consideration of the resort for their employees during the shutdown period as they permitted remaining staff and family members to live at the resort during a very trying time (the Mexican government did not provide assistance the way other countries did). Although many old friends are no longer there, it was good to see many familiar faces, from management (Joselo (customer service - he did a wonderful job wearing many hats during the week and happened to be the concierge in our building), Angel (La Hacienda - he made sure we had a wonderful time at that restaurant as we visited there 3 times), Luis (L'Olivo - he, too, ensured our visit to that restaurant was a great experience), and Yolanda (food and beverage) to wait staff (Alejandro at L'Olivo (a very attentive waiter who made our dining experience special) and Juan at Mar y Tierra, among others). But it was also good to meet new staff, although on occasion there were some hiccups in the service due to staff inexperience. We stayed in one of the renovated Emerald Suites, and we were very impressed with the improvements. New patio sliding doors; a new window with an automatic shutter; a totally redesigned shower and jacuzzi area; new furniture; and a touchscreen control for the thermostat, ceiling fan, window shutter, and Bluetooth pairing of your device to in-room speakers. No problems whatsoever with shower or faucet temperature or water flow (we had occasional issues in the past). And supremely comfortable bedding. Highly recommend these rooms. Altogether, a wonderful, restful, and special week for the two of us! We look forward to returning in 2022, to hopefully an experience closer to pre-pandemic.

We went for a week long vacation to Cancun and stayed in one of the premium ocean front emerald junior suite located in Building 10 for two days. The view of the room was spectacular, astounding and one of a sort. The room was also recently renovated with a ton of features, one of them being being a personal full size ocean facing jacuzzi. The resort is massive, the amenities were great however we found the service to be lacking and staff less active. It took them more than an hour to check in to our room. The resort has two big swimming pools which are fun, however be cautious they don’t provide towels or anything to eat at these. You have to carry your own towels and snacks from the room which gets a little troublesome at times and loses the entire vacation feel. This applies to the beach area as well unless you plan to opt for a beach bed at an extra charge of 35 USD which we did on the second day. Covid-19 would be a lousy excuse for not having these services since pretty much everything else comes in physical contact by the staff, so I’m not sure how towel service could make it any worse. The beach area also has some local vendors so you can enjoy some shopping along with sun bathing. They do have many restaurant options that offer a la carte dining with made to order dishes which definitely had decent flavour profiles overall. I loved the huge variety of fruits they had at the breakfast and lunch buffets. The room service, however, was disappointing, with very few options overall while especially minimalistic for vegetarians/vegans. Overall, it’s a pretty decent resort but there are better options if you are inclined towards value-add services and food.

Was there for 30days and absolutely loved it. Food is a Solid 8.5 out of 10 (and I’m picky). Grounds are meticulous and the wildlife was fun. What makes this place special though is the staff. Whether it be Rosa the waitress, Edwin the waiter, Wilbert the landscaper, Rosario the concierge, Alma at the front desk, Jerod the beach concierge, they are all aces!! A few more of the staff that were really exceptional were Magdiel, Manuel, Robert, Yessina from the golden pool. Grissell and Lizeth from the plaza. Juan the landscaper. The whole staff is absolutely awesome. I’m already looking to book my next trip for this summer. Also enjoyed the scuba diving experience on the resort. (Had never been). Guys and gals this place is just awesome. Maybe not your speed if 21 years old and looking for a Cancun spring break feel but this resort accommodates both those who want to party and get loud and those who want to find a quite place and just chill. Wish I was a better writer to give this place justice. If on the fence whether to go or not, my advice would be GO!!! There’s a reason I met 5+ couples who have been there 10+ times:)

Everything here is phenomenal. Immaculate grounds, beautiful pools and beach, delicious food. But, the highlight of this resort is the service! Every employee here is incredible! Kind, efficient, and so hardworking! Rosa, Robert, Jared, Rosario, Edwin, Wilbert, Yessina, Manuel, Magdiel, Grissell... the list goes on! These people keep guests coming back! Without them, the resort wouldn’t be nearly as special. Looking forward to the next trip!

This was the first time we've visited Riviera Maya and as a couple we were looking for an adults only hotel. This is definitely the place to visit if you are looking for a getaway and to renew your relationship. The drinks were great, the food was amazing. We have to thank Zyanya (the Salsa and TRX trainer) for keeping us in shape during our stay which made us feel a little less guilty from all the drinking and eating. The staff at this hotel are always extremely helpful, hard working and welcoming. Would definitely recommend recommend and look forward to returning in the near future.
