front desk Sonni very helpful, otherwise somewhat rundown hotel with issues

Ddan7777 (Raleigh, North Carolina) on Apr 28, 2024

The location for this hotel is excellent. It is in midtown, near lots of tourist things. When I first arrived, the man who checked me in, Sonni, was very helpful and gave me lots of tips about things to do in the area. Sonni was flexible, polite, and helped me to get oriented. As a platinum-level Marriott member, I have stayed at many SpringHill Suites hotels. This was the first time I had stayed at one in the middle of a major city. Interestingly, this hotel is juxtaposed to a Fairfield Inn & Suites and a Marriott Vacation Club, you have 3 Marriott-brand facilities in a row (along the same street are a few other hotels from other brands). Being platinum, I got upgraded, but my room was still surprisingly small. I did not pay for a budget room, but basically that is what I ended up receiving. The hotel is a bit rundown. There were pieces of plastic sticking out from the furniture in my room, there was chipped-off paint at different points, and the heater in my room did not work so I had to call the maintenance man. He explained that the thermostat on the wall was not communicating properly with the heating unit and managed to find a workaround so that I could get heat in my room. The complimentary breakfast was disappointing. They had scrambled eggs, one type of protein (e.g., sausage), and oatmeal. I was surprised, given the location and the size of this hotel, by such a limited spread. They did have fresh fruit, but that was also a small selection. The seating area was crowded.

Excellent hotel in great location

cooper009 (Vancouver, BC) on Apr 24, 2024

Excellent hotel walking distance to all the sights and many subway lines but on a quieter street. Staff was excellent, friendly and quick to help. Room was much larger than we expected, especially for New York. We paid for a view room and it did not disappoint - view of the Empire State Building. Elevators were fast. Housekeeping was fantastic, cleaned our room everyday which I know is not always the norm anymore. Beds comfortable and rooms really quiet. Only small complaint was the breakfast - but we knew that before we booked. The breakfast area is not big enough, but they have paper plates and cups so we just took our breakfast up to our rooms. Selection is small, but pretty average free hotel breakfast. Also lots of great food options nearby for the couple mornings we slept too late for breakfast. We would definitely stay here again!

Cookie-Cutter Budget Hotel

DCRE (Washington DC, District of Columbia) on Apr 23, 2024

Perhaps we were delusional to be expecting something more upscale based on the reviews. This is a typical cookie-cutter budget hotel in New York City. To call the room a "suite" is a total joke. The bed is separated from the remainder of the small room by a desk with a small glass divider above it. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable and, for the price, it was acceptable.

Clean, Quiet, and Close to Everything

Rachael P (Cheyenne, Wyoming) on Apr 10, 2024

This hotel was perfect for our family. The rooms were quite small, but we expected that, since we were in midtown Manhattan. We reserved a separate room for our teens. The front desk upgraded us to a city view so the rooms could be adjoining. The view of the Empire State Building from our room was spectacular. I was especially impressed with the cleaning service at the hotel. Our rooms were serviced daily, which is a rare treat of late. The room was very quiet (we were on the 15th floor). We couldn't hear any noise from outside, other rooms, or hallways. The location of this hotel is outstanding. It is a short walk to Times Square and many other midtown destinations. Most popular destinations are within 15-20 minutes when utilizing the subway.

Great Hotel

L5372KThelenk on Apr 03, 2024

We had a great stay here, great location, beds comfy, staff friendly and the whole hotel felt clean and secure. We have only 2 negatives…. - bathroom door was an opaque glass sliding door. It didn’t give enough privacy. - Very busy at breakfast time, grab a table before getting anything. That said, it was a good breakfast. Set us all up for the day. Would we stay again? Absolutely! Good value for money.
