Amazing food, friendly staff that goes above and beyond, beautiful beaches with plenty of lounge chairs and cabana's for everyone. Laid back atmosphere. The beds are really great here as well!

Great Service at a Very Good Resort

Donna W (Houston, Texas) on May 02, 2024

Details: My husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary by staying for 7 days at Breathless Montego Bay in an Exhale Club Junior Suite. We also had access to Secrets St. James and Secrets Wild Orchid. We have stayed at Hyatt, Sandals, Hideaway/Royalton, and Royalton Chic properties in the past. Our priorities are spacious/modern rooms and excellent quality and variety of food. Service: Our primary butler, Travis, took care of anything that we needed from restaurant and spa reservations to cabana reservations and maintenance requests. He made sure that my husband had fresh pineapples every day without him asking. We worked with another butler, Eugene, for a few hours who brought lunch to the room from a nearby restaurant because I didn’t feel like leaving. I wish that Travis had told us when his last day was because we wanted to say goodbye and provide a tip. The housekeeping, room service staff, restaurant staff, and everyone we met was kind and helpful. It showed great attention to detail that the room service department called us after each order was delivered to make sure that we received everything that we needed. Room: The view was gorgeous. We appreciated the tablet in the room to order meals and minibar refills. The electronic lights and blinds felt like fancy touches. A small bottle of rum, a standard bottle of sparkling wine, and a bottle of merlot with a snack plate were waiting for us upon arrival. I wish that they had acknowledged our anniversary in some way with a banner or room décor. We had issues with the shower door scraping the floor and being hard to open and close. The butler took care of it immediately. We noticed other wear and tear such as the damp/peeling wood in the room, the handle on the Secret box kept popping off, and the light controls on my side of the bed didn’t work. My husband has a special relationship with the television on every vacation, and he was grateful that I purchased a VPN, HDMI cord, and adapter to watch our US streaming networks because the resort’s channel selection wasn’t great. The jacuzzi on the balcony was a nice touch. We agreed that we would splurge on a larger room next time because we prefer more dining space and an extra bathroom. I was grateful that the butler was already included in the cost of all Exhale suites and not an added expense like it would have been if we stayed in some of the other room types. Food & Drinks: Once again, we were both pleased by the food at a Hyatt-related resort. I had the variety of food that I needed, and he was able to get burgers and fries whenever he wanted them. We took advantage of golf cart rides at night from our resort to the dinner restaurants which were primarily located at Secrets Wild Orchid. I enjoyed the Italian restaurant the most in terms of ambiance as well as food. We stood in the nearby piano bar waiting for our reservation time, and it was a nice crowd. The Jamaican restaurant was a disappointment because I’ve had better oxtails in the states. The Hibachi performative experience was cheesy, but I ate the food. The lunch restaurants were equally good. The Mexican restaurant had a roach crawling on the wall near us. The jerk chicken meal at the restaurant on Breathless beach was delicious. I also had that meal delivered to my cabana on the beach. I ate breakfast once in the Preferred lounge at Secrets Wild Orchid and grabbed a cup of coffee with rum cream from the coffee shop. Both tasty experiences. I stuck to what Jamaica specializes in for drinks and had bottomless amounts of rum punch. Shout out to bartender Nico (same extra finger tribe)! Entertainment: Entertainment wasn’t a big deal for us on this trip. We went to a talent show, a few DJ sets, and a Moulin Rouge performance in their lobby. There was a foam party happening when we returned from one of our excursions. We heard fashion shows and other parties happening from our room. We didn’t visit the nightclub, but it’s there if you need it. Gym/Spa: My husband went to the gym almost every morning and said that he found every piece of equipment that he needed. I thought that it was small and crammed with too many machines compared to other gyms that I’ve seen. The hydrotherapy experience provided by the Valet was a great start to the spa visit. Kamala provided a wonderful relaxation massage at the spa that cleared my sinuses! She incorporated aromatherapy and addressed problem areas and pressure concerns professionally. The experience was a wonderful part of my vacation. Beach/Pool: Breathless beach was small and rocky. Water shoes were necessary. Since the butler could only reserve seats for us at Breathless beach and pools, that’s where we sat. The pool was boring on the first day that we were there. I stayed on the beach for the rest of the vacation. I ate, slept, and drank happily. I saw a wedding on the beach and enjoyed their steel drum music but hated the noisy drone that the photographer used to get pictures of the happy couple. The Secrets beach had chairs that were closer together than I would have liked, but the ocean didn’t seem as rocky there. (BTW, I packed mosquito repellent for myself and room, but I never had a problem.) Overall: We were impressed by the service and the food. Relaxation was achieved on this vacation. I think that the party atmosphere that they market for Breathless didn’t really happen on this trip. It is possible that I just ignored it since that wasn’t my goal, but I never thought “Wow, that music is too loud.” Our search for a consistent resort chain may be over. Granted, Hyatt/AMR properties aren’t the cheapest, but our next resort will probably be a Hyatt/Secrets/ Breathless resort.

Breathless views at Breathless

Misia S on May 02, 2024

We had a wonderful time at Breathless. The staff were always very helpful and friendly and eager to assist us. Everyone from checking in and receiving a 'Welcome Home' champagne, to our FABULOUS butler, Rory to the staff in the restaurants and lastly the spa. Top notch for sure. We even got calls to ensure our room service was delivered. We definitely left there truly pampered. It was very nice to have the other 2 resorts available to use for beach, pool and restaurant options. Rory communicated with us daily checking in and asking if there was anything he could do for us. He was beyond accommodating and went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our time at Breathless. I will say, this resort is on the younger and louder side. Music is played very loud daily with various activities throw in. We enjoyed the foam party for the first 30-ish mins until it got a bit much for us. We did attend the headphone party and that was something very different and very fun. We found ourselves at the Secrets pools and beaches mainly for how loud it was at Breathless during the day. Altitudes, rooftop bar/restaurant/pool was very good with breathtaking views. The breadkfast buffet was delicious everyday. We enjoyed the Italian restaurant and hibachi, both at Secrets. The resort itself is a bit dated, but we felt it was very clean and taken care of. I would definitely think of staying there again or one of the sister Secret resorts.
