Perfect, relaxing, adults only dream vacation spot

shannoncE4764HC (Darien, Illinois) on Apr 26, 2024

What a pleasant surprise! We take 2-3 trips to Cancun/PDC per year for the last 12+ years and this was our first time at OMR. This is an excellent resort. The small size means you can get anywhere quickly and easily. We loved the bungalow style housing and had an unobstructed ocean view which was phenomenal and steps from the sand, pool and 3 restaurants. Privilege is exactly that, a true Privilege and we will always choose this level as OMR truly provides a special level of service for this category including an entire oceanside restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner exclusively for Privilege level guests. All the food was good to very good, at all of the restaurants. The beach is rock free, clean and easily swimmable. We did not spend any time at the party pool but the quiet pool was absolutely our speed as was the Privilege beach where were were well taken care of every day. The employees were truly happy to provide excellent service. The employees at OMR are the true stars of this spectacular show! Special mention to Fabian Flores, our concierge/butler for the week. Fabian excels at his job, period. What a great guy. Ilsa (I), Ilsa (II) & Carolina at Privilege restaurant provided excellent service, remembered our names, what we like to eat/drink, our dog's name (!!!) and were all smiles, every day. Jorge, beach concierge could not have been more pleasant and helpful, every day. Roberto at Privilege check in went so far above and beyond to make sure our vacation was perfect-we are forever in his debt. We have found a new home at OMR and look forward to returning later this year. Thank you OMR-what a perfect vacation!

Expect fun, but not a restaurant meal.

richard p (Guernsey, United Kingdom) on Apr 25, 2024

Just checking out from a 1-week stay here. Overall, we have had an excellent time. The staff are amazing and attentive. The Blue Team is great, so full of energy, and really gets everyone having fun. The bar staff work endlessly and are super friendly. The beach is lovely and there's a beautiful lagoon just a short walk away. Special shout to Margerita, in the excursions hut. We did the Tulum visit with cenote swim......outstanding our guide Leo was a lovely bloke. What really frustrated us was not being able to book a restaurant, which ultimately meant we ate buffet almost every night. Pretty poor setup, but that's our only gripe. Good rooms, bit tired, but nothing major. I would still recommend this hotel to anyone considering it. It's what you make of it what makes the holiday.

Average at best, food is despicable

Dreamer10920851603 (Sheffield, United Kingdom) on Apr 23, 2024

The hotel needs some further investment. It is dated in places and the food is dismal. This is our review after spending 1 week here. Sorry it’s lengthy, but if you’re serious about booking I suggest you read further. Breakfast Buffet is the best aspect of the food, it has a large selection and tasty. Vincente was lovely. Asian Restaurant is ok, probably the best out of all restaurants (which isn’t hard). You need to queue at 5.30pm to reserve a place for dinner that evening, every evening. Italian Restaurant- nice setting next to the ocean, Alberto was great but food is utterly tasteless . The tiramisu felt like mush which dissolved into nothing. You need to order a dish from each section of the menu as portions are very small. Mexican Restaurant- absolutely tasteless and extremely slow staff, we kept having to wave and get up to get attention (17th April) - only 6 tables occupied in the restaurant. Rusbel and David were nice waiters. Had to Spit the beef out, because of a chemical taste and it was comparable to eating leather. No acknowledgment of guests leaving at the front desk, staff just chatting away. We didn’t think food could get much worse, but it did…… Brazilian night at the main buffet restaurant. Tasteless, inedible, I can’t find words to describe how poor it was. We didn’t eat an evening meal on the last night, we just couldn’t face another night of bad food. Other than breakfast the food is void of any quality or taste at every site. I actually can’t wait to get to the airport and eat something normal, even airplane food is better than here. Gym- good range of equipment. Spa- husband had a facial and said it was lovely. I had a manicure and it was a disaster. I walked out after 1 hour 25 minutes with just my nails shaped differently. The nail varnish was lumpy, uneven and quite frankly my 5 year old nephew could have done a better job. The spa then tried to say it was so bad because I chose a bright colour pink?! What????? By this time I had to leave due to other commitments and to be honest I didn’t trust the nail technician to try again or sit in the chair for a further hour for something so basic yet incapable of performing. Truly the Worse manicure experience I’ve ever had. Poor application and poor products. The manicure was not cancelled on check out (as promised) and we were told to walk back to the spa and sort it out ourselves as we were leaving for the airport. What kind of non service happens here!! We had to have a heated conversation with Arturo to sort this out. All that was required was a phone call- which I had to demand he perform to sort it. Everything is a battle at front desk with misinformation. On check in we were told to contact the front desk to pre-book our taxi to the airport the day before we left. We did this, only to be told we needed to follow a link on an email 72 hours before ?? what a shock…computer said no. How do staff get basic info so wrong? Instead of the complementary transport we had to pay £60 for a private taxi - which was waiting for us when Alburto on front desk asked us to sort the spa out! I despair. Room- Mini bar- good selection of branded soft drinks and 2 x sol beer a day. Toiletries in the room are very cheap and watered down. Instead of replacing the toilet seat they have painted it white. Just replace it, it looks awful. Great A/C in the room. Great housekeeping. Bad intermittent Wi-Fi connection became quite frustrating. Grounds are nice and well kept. Nice to see animals in the grounds - deer, iguanas. I’m by no means old :-) and I do like house music (at night having a good time) but why oh why do they think everyone around the pool want to listen to excessively loud music like Nicki Minaj banging on about her anacondas?! With a staff member screaming down a microphone for everyone to ‘Make some noise’EVERY.SINGLE.DAY?! Good grief I know it’s an adult only hotel but can we please get some class some days??? There’s a handful of twenty something year old’s screaming along with it, but the vast majority are not. What about some chilled out house music in the afternoon if you’re insistent on the music genre?! It’s not relaxing at all and cheapens the place. I think you’re massively misunderstanding your clientele here. Not enough sun loungers or umbrella’s for all guests . People were dragging them out of the pool and we were never able to get an umbrella. Unless you keep tipping waiting staff they don’t refill drinks around the pool. There are some good points to this hotel, but not enough to override the bad and make me want to return.

Another amazing trip to OMR!

Becky S on Apr 22, 2024

We’ve just returned from our second trip to Ocean Maya Royale and we will be back again. This resort checks all of the boxes for us when it comes to adults only, food, drinks and entertainment. I want to start out by saying how amazing Kenddell from the Blue Team is. He makes it a point to learn everyone’s name and says good morning to each and every person as well as genuinely wants to learn about them and what brought them to visit. He had us hooked on Aquafit by the second day and even had us excited to stay up late for the Broadway show one evening. The other Blue Team members I want to shout out are Alexander, Grecia, Sexy Jules, Andrea, Adela and Cheeky Baby. We loved seeing Miguel again at the pool bar and he remembered our favorite drinks each day. And let’s not forget about Cristobal at the sports bar. He makes a mean raspberry martini. We have nothing but positive things to say about the resort and cannot wait to visit again!
