Not bad for the money

Overall, Occidental Tamarindo was a nice resort. The rooms are a bit dated but remain nice, functional and largely clean. The pool area was nice and our server, Adina, was lovely, quick and attentive. The evening shows were quite well done, energetic and entertaining. We had read that drinks were not allowed around the pool, but this was incorrect. Drinks did seem rather watered down but on the other hand, there were no drunken rowdy people to contend with. Tamarindo town is about a 1/2 hour walk away or an $8 USD cab ride. Probably wouldn’t go back, but not as a result of being unhappy, just would prefer to see other places. Food selection was ample but nothing was clearly labeled (for those with food sensitivities) Overall, we had a lovely, relaxing time at Occidental Tamarindo.

None to mention. The service was excellent. The room was very spacious and the gardens well maintained.

An Enjoyable Stay Overall

JOHN V (New York City, New York) on May 01, 2024

My stay at Occidental Tamarindo was an overall enjoyable one. Nothing is ever perfect, but one thing I can say is that the price point for this all inclusive is. The buffet area has plenty of choices and I was pleasantly surprised that a lot of the choices were delicious. What was noticeably delicious was the fruits. They simply were bursting with flavor and are noticeably different from what I have locally. There are two main bars and another that is setup by the pool under a tent. They do the trick and drinks are typical for an all inclusive. The pool is nice but the water does get pretty warm with the naturally warm and humid temperatures and provides little relief. I went this April and the heat and humidity was pretty intense. Plan to wear anything between a 50 and 70 sunscreen or higher, if not you will surely burn quickly. The beach is filled with lava stones but if you venture to the north of them, you will steer away from them. The surfing is pretty amazing with very good waves. There are two restaurants. The Sushi /Hibachi restaurant was more enjoyable that the italian restaurant. Venturing out to town is probably a 25 minute walk or a 5 minute Uber or Taxi. There are plenty of locations to eat in town and there is one within walking distance from the Resort. There is a food truck park in town that is a visit i would suggest for local food fare. The area felt safe and the local people were extremely friendly and welcoming. This Resort is 1hour and 30 minutes from the Liberia Airport on a single lane road with many speed bumps. Make sure you leave or your transfer provides ample time to get you back to the Airport.

Smaller resort which we like. Food was very good drinks were non-premium but there was still enough selection to make us happy. Spa is a must, highlight of the resort!
