Exceptional 45th Birthday Experience at Occidental Tucancún I chose the Occidental Tucancún for my 45th birthday, and it was an absolutely unforgettable experience. This was my first time visiting Mexico, and I’m so glad I chose this resort based on a recommendation from my cousin who had stayed here before. The property is full of energy and has such a positive vibe; I was able to connect with so many amazing people from all around the world. As a Premium Status guest, I enjoyed fantastic extra perks, but the true heart of this resort is the incredible staff and the professional, clean atmosphere throughout. Arrival & Service The great service started the moment I arrived. I want to give a special shout-out to Gonzalo the bellman; he had me laughing right from the start and gave me excellent local restaurant recommendations. The reservations and front desk team were also seamless. A big thank you to Maria, Mierya, Ruben, David, Gustavo, Alejandra, Alberto, and the many others behind the scenes who made sure everything was perfect. Dining, Drinks, & Birthday Surprises The hospitality here is next level. On my first day, I was welcomed to my room with a gifted bottle of champagne, and later, I returned to find a beautiful birthday cake. The bar staff even surprised me with another cake on my birthday! The food was excellent at the Seafood, Italian, and Mexican restaurants. Huge thanks to the team (and the many others whose names I didn't catch!): Armando, Antonio, Enrique, Miriam, Yoselin, Laura, Ana, Yuli, Daniel, Ismael, Rogelio, Abel, Luis, Vicente and many more. Resort Atmosphere & Amenities My ocean view room was stunning and kept spotlessly clean every single day. The resort layout is perfect, featuring three pools: one with a DJ who did a phenomenal job with engaging activities, and two others that are perfect for adults to chill and relax. The resort also features great shops and a high-quality gym. When it comes to the price, the value for the room was not bad at all—you really get an amazing experience for what you pay. The noise level was cool I was able to get a good night's sleep. I also felt incredibly safe thanks to the security staff; I even met the Head of Security, Sabino, who does a fantastic job leading his team. Entertainment & Spa The nightly atmosphere was top-notch thanks to Mildred the singer. She was absolutely amazing every night, with a beautiful voice that got everyone moving to Latin songs. For relaxation, the spa is a must—thank you to Angelica (Spa Coordinator) and Amparo (Therapist) for such a professional experience. Final Thoughts This trip marked my 24th country visited, and the hospitality here made it one of my favorite milestones yet. Everything was professional, clean, and welcoming. If you want a vacation where you are treated like family while meeting people from across the globe, look no further. I’ll definitely be back!
Terrible, read before you book!

By far the worst place I have stayed at!! Don’t waster your money! Check-in took over an hour and a half, which unfortunately seems to be standard here. Dinner reservations also close at 4pm, so by the time you finally check in, they tell you that you can no longer eat at the restaurants. One staff member at reception even told us that guests are not allowed to dine at the restaurants on their first night and must use the buffet instead. Thankfully, we went down as soon as the restaurant opened and were seated anyway. The hotel is completely disorganised. After we checked into our room, another staff member came to inspect it because they apparently did not know whether it had already been assigned. Communication between staff seems nonexistent. Even the reception lines are chaotic — there are no clear signs, so everyone waits in one line, only to be redirected to another line for check-in, then sent back again to collect room keys. The food was average at best, and on the first day much of the buffet food was barely warm. The Italian restaurant, which requires a reservation, would not even serve wine in proper wine glasses unless you upgraded to the “special” dining area. Red wine was served cold in a water glass, while the buffet at lunch had proper wine glasses available. It honestly felt more like laziness or cost-cutting than a premium experience. Throughout the stay, we were constantly left waiting at reception desks and host stands. Many staff members were snappy and unfriendly, making every simple question feel like an inconvenience. The room itself was comfortable, which was the only positive part of the stay. Hopefully this message reaches higher management so standards can be met for other travellers!

The service is amazing but hotel needs lots of updates. The beds are good. Breakfast is amazing, didn’t have lunch in hotel but dinner is ok I can say there’s variety but not that amazing except one night they had pretty good food. The Mexican restaurant is pretty good. This is my 4th time staying here and for me it wasn’t to pleasant this time around.
