Wish it lived up to what we thought.

The resort did not live up to what we were sold when arranging our stay. Our first room was horrible , it was dirty and the view was less than to be desired. The food for the most part was ok to sub par, the best places to eat were Light house with Victor and his team and the Italian restaurant. Service is pretty slow so if you have young kids it is hard to eat at the restaurants. The second room was ok but it had roaches, they came and cleaned to room and sent us a couple things after I talked with Maria who is the Guest Services Manager. But the bugs where back the next day and no solution was offered. Still had to pay full price and was not worth the cost of the stay. The resort seems to be stuck in the 80's or 90's.... it needs a huge face-lift if it wants to stay as a destination. Last two things, you could barely go into the ocean because it was so rough. If you do stay here please go see Miguel at the bar next to Big Ben, he was a very warm and great bartender. Probably will spend our vacations at a different resort if we go back to Cancun.

Very good view from the oceanfront balcony on the first floor Upon arriving and checking in, Giovanni was very attentive when we had a situation in our reservation through the best mezcalitas page with Santiago in the lobby bar The cream of potatoes for dinner at the fine cuts restaurant and the empanadas are highly recommended. Teresa at the Japanese restaurant is an excellent recommendation and in the end Sandra at the reception was very friendly. We asked for a towel on the beach and they said it would be without any extra charge

Not relaxing, not 4 star, wanted to leave early.

We spent a week at the Seadust as a family of 5 with kids under 10. This is the first vacation I have been on, with or without kids, that I have ever wanted to go home early from. We tried getting flights home early but they were pricey due to busy season. I've always thought that even if a resort fell short of my hopes or expectations, at least there would be the beautiful beach, a relaxing pool and in Mexico, lots of chips and guacamole if the food wasn't great! At the Seadust, all of the pools had extremely loud music...a repetitive loop of a small number of dance songs at the main and adult pools, and Disney hits at the water park. All so loud though, you could never get your child's attention if you wanted or needed to, and we were constantly screaming at each other like we were in a nightclub trying to talk. Immediately above the shallow kids pool in the main front pool area there is a speaker blasting music so loud none of us could stand it for any period of time and it was literally a safety issue because no kid could hear an adult (or vice versa) yelling from more than a foot away. There aren't many pool chairs and they don't enforce not saving chairs with a towel first thing in the morning and all day thereafter, but it really wasn't a place to relax and read a book or anything anyway. Our favourite spot was the beach. Again many of the chairs just sat with towels and no people all day but we managed to get one or two most times we tried. The beach was peaceful because the music of the pool area was a bit behind it...until the last days of our stay when the resort set up a stage, DJ and concert speakers and played obnoxiously loud, distorted-bass dance music on the beach for a long weekend "beach party". The vibe of the whole place was like tacky college spring break but there were mostly families there. Likewise, the nightclub was open until 1am and echoed loudly through the cruiseship/atrium style building, as did the people yelling as they poured out of the nightclub after closing. Nothing about the constant party noise made this feel like a "family resort". The food at the Seadust was okay. At the buffet there were always some fresh items and some not so fresh, so we just went for the freshest looking or made to order dishes. At the Mexican station at the buffet, ONE day they had guacamole out in a small dish. Other than that, never. In the ala carte restaurants if you asked for a side of guacamole the servers looked like you'd asked them something really uncomfortable and it was strangely difficult to get any! The Mexican restaurant, the only ala carte said to be open for lunch, was not. There was a taco cart out in front of it instead and no guacamole here either. I think the best thing we ate at the resort were the fresh fish tacos that were being made at the poolside grill one day. They were delish. If you are an espresso/cappuccino/latte drinker, you may notice in photos the nice espresso machine in the Cactus Grab & Go cafe. Unfortunately, that service is closed from 7-9am (!?!). One day my husband talked a lady into making a cappuccino at 8am, but otherwise no. We weren't the only guests puzzled that they would close the coffee machine during probably the most likely 2 hours that a person might be looking for a morning coffee! So bizarre. The Seadust is in pretty bad disrepair. The rooms, halls, lobby, exterior, buffet, waterpark, all of it is pretty badly run down. We wondered if maybe it was closed for a time and reopened but wasn't refurbished first? It was okay, but I can see some people being shocked if they are expecting a 4 star property which the vacation package we purchased had marketed it as. Not to be all negative, most of the staff at the Seadust were very friendly and helpful and seemed happy. The evening shows were pretty well done and the kids loved being able to get an ice cream cone every day. It was a short drive from the airport, and we appreciated the hospitality area to shower and hang out after check out and before our flight. We would not return to the Seadust and would not recommend it for anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday or upscale amenities.

Bait and Switch

Kevin T (Gaylord, Michigan) on Apr 10, 2024

We booked this resort four months in advance. Upon arrival the ocean front, king bed room was not available. They offered to switch us to one when one became available, which we did. We were asked to check out of our room before noon and store our belongings and were then able to check into the correct room the next day after 3 PM. Neither room seemed to be able to cool off with the air conditioning completely. Neither room had a safe that worked in spite of my my experience working them at other properties. Neither room had a refrigerator that would make the drinks cold. Both rooms had 2 small trash cans that were inadequate for the size of the room. The toilet in our second room barely flushed. The hot tub in our room pumped some scum out of the jets the more I used it. We did not attempt to rectify any of these issues because we did not want to hang around our room for an indeterminate amount of time and wait for a maintenance service. The food in all of the restaurants were just so so. At times there were more than an hour wait to get into the restaurants. Even the buffet would have a long, slow moving line to get in at times. A couple of restaurants had signs on the door indicating that they opened at a specific time, but the staff would say that there would be a hour and a half delay before they opened. The buffet had a large variety, but the other restaurants did not. You were not allowed to take food out of the buffet area to your room. A lot of the food was cold when you received it. The juice at the breakfast buffet was watered down. The liquor in the drinks tasted counterfeit and the drinks were watered down unless you specifically requested extra liquor. Both pool tables in the sports bar had ripped tops. There was a strong smell of sewage in a few areas of the building. They did a good job of cleaning our room when we requested this. The new Visitax should be included in the original price that was paid if they advertise as all-inclusive in my opinion. I believe that they market this towards young families with children who have not had much experience with other resorts. It does have some good child oriented amenities, but it is not good enough in many other areas to warrant the cost. Good luck if you go with this location and I hope that some of the issues have been addressed.
