Average hotel

jc0ppens on May 11, 2024

The hotel is very expensive for the quality of facilities. The property is dated and not as clean as I would expect. We had a cockroach in our room and the toliet ran all night.

Enjoyable Stay with Room for Improvement

143ianl (Long Island, New York) on May 11, 2024

I have a lot of mixed feelings about our stay at Wild Orchid. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience; however, for the money we paid, we felt that we would have expected better service and many better options. Personally, I have Celiac. On my first day, I was excited to see that some of the menus listed "gluten free" or "contains gluten" – but only on some items. I ordered gluten free fish tacos, but they came out on flour tortillas – quite disappointing as I could have gotten very sick. Staff also did not often understand what gluten-free/Celiac was. Some of our servers were great, but other staff seemed apathetic. I've worked customer service and food service for years, so I can imagine the challenges of working on a resort, but it genuinely seemed that the resort was understaffed. At times, we waited an hour and a half for food. Even though there are 9 restaurants on site, there are also times where the only places open are a pizza and burger grill or the 24/7 bakery/café. Again, for the money we paid, I would have expected having more options available. The actual hotel and beach were beautiful and are what I dream about going back to. If service improved, I would definitely consider returning, but for now, I'll find somewhere new.

Overall a great experience

KStop221 on May 11, 2024

We stayed at Secrets Wild Orchid at the preferred club. Overall we had a great experience. The positives: We were greeted by Matthew who took our bags and was always there with a smile on his face. Our butlers, especially Duran were wonderful and went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and provide excellent service. The entertainment was WONDERFUL. The whole crew of singers and dancers and performers were awesome. And we enjoyed the variety...magician, live music, game show, talent show. The pace band (their house band) was fantastic every night and we appreciated that they played different sets for the entire week we were there. We very much enjoyed Bordeux the French restaurant and El Patio the Mexican. The jamaican restaurant was also good if you enjoy jamaican cuisine. We had a good experience at the spa - wonderful massage and we very much enjoyed our excursions and the romantic dinner in the gazebo. Our butler has a cabana on the beach ready for us every day which was enjoyable as well. Room service was always quick and good. The negatives: on the nights that it rained, the entertainment was inside the theater. I cannot even begin to explain how AWFUL the smell in the theater was. It smelled like mold and mildew and it was truly unbearable and gave me a headache. Just horrendous smell and ruined the enjoyment of the shows. Overall the food was mediocre at best with very tiny portions although they did allow multiple entrees if necessary so we were never hungry. I don't think Jamaica knows what a caesar salad is...in fact none of the salads were good or correct. Service at majority of the restaurants was very very slow. It would sometimes take an hour or more to get our food. The hibachi restaurant was fun, but it was sooo hot inside so it was hard to enjoy the "show". On the second day we had to sit through a spiel about joining their club...this was offered to us with an excursion voucher so we agreed. I understand they're just doing their jobs but we were told it would be 90 min long and it easily took 2 and a half hours. Wasted our whole morning. Other couples we spoke to had the same experience. Don't say 90 min and then go an hour over that time. That is not how you get people to buy your membership. On our last day, we had an issue where they charged us for our dinner on the beach even though it was included with our honeymoon package. We had been given a letter early on in the week with what was offered in this package and we had to provide our wedding invitation to get the package which we did. We were told to bring the letter to the spa which we did to receive our free service. The dinner was set up and we enjoyed it Friday night. We were never told we had to bring the letter to check out however they were refusing to comp us without the letter. Our butler told them it was part of our package and they still refused so our butler had to run up to try to find the letter - absolutely absurd that the concierge and front desk people would not have an understanding with each other. We had been there all week and received all of the other honeymoon services... and we were never told we needed the letter. Ultimately it was resolved but it took way too long and caused a lot of stress the morning of our departure where we almost missed breakfast and our airport pick up. If you decide to stay here I definitely recommend staying preferred. It was private and there was not a lot of people around which we loved. Never had trouble getting reservations or booking excursions or getting a spot at the beach.

I had an amazing time, the staff was one of the most welcoming nicest I ever met at a secret/breathless, but I wish they hadn’t cut back on the entertainment every day should be a pool party, there enough space if you want quiet time

Beautiful location but property needs repairs/updates

nicolewilson2024 (Cleveland, Ohio) on May 10, 2024

We stayed here about 10 years ago and the property and service were exceptional. This stay however, was lackluster. The grounds are beautiful but the rooms are in dire need of repairs (Slow draining sinks, floor tile has huge gaps, water damage along walls, jacuzzi tub on balcony falling apart) and SOME staff appear to be upset if you make simple request or ask questions. On the other hand, there were many pleasant staff that made our stay rather nice. Overall, I would rate this resort a 3 out of 5.
