Great location but showing its age

The hotel is perfectly located - just one block from the Sky Train station, Pacific mall, Robson St and an easy 10 minute walk to Canada Place and the waterfront. Unfortunately the rooms are not up to par as there is a lot of noise from the hallway, all doors slam shut (no soft close), large gap at bottom of door floods the room with light at night, HVAC is set to heat this time of year and the room was uncomfortably warm even with the system set to off and the window open. There was a tray of dishes left in the hall for 2 days. Sewage smell in the bathroom. Wifi disconnects constantly. Front Desk staff during day shift are excellent but second shift is very unfriendly. There are at least 4 hotels within one block of the Fairmont so unless this prices in significantly lower, I suggest looking elsewhere.

    Lovely historic hotel

A lovely historic hotel, it just celebrated 80 years. The room was a bit small with only a small window so it was a bit dark and not much of a view. Bed was a bit hard and lumpy. We were booked here as part of our Scenic tour of Canada but I think it would have been better to stay at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel as we spent quite a bit of time walking to the Waterfront area to see Canada Place, the Flyover Canada, Vancouver Lookout and Gas Town. One note: we were told after we had checked in by fellow guests that if you touch anything in the mini bar you will be charged for it automatically on the hotel computer as it has sensors in it. I did not believe them at first but when we checked at the front desk we were told that they assume you have consumed anything you have touched. We had put our own water bottles in the mini bar and explained this to them so they made a note not to charge us. Not only were we not told by staff when we checked in I find this a very unfriendly practice to charge you just for touching anything in the fridge. I've never come across it before.

Accor ruining the Fairmont brand - Platinum level and business guests be aware

Had major issues last stay, was promised by previous general manager verbally upon my return to the property an unparalleled service but failed. -Check in took more than an hour and staff had no power when it came to accommodating platinum guest and attempted to up-sell a room; this meant property cared more about revenue then guest service recovery which I found offensive with major issues from previous stay. A manger came to rectify the situation after an hour. As I was here for business and needed a larger room, I had to settle for what lower floor even my profile stated I would prefer higher floor. Fortunately, the property has completed their renovations and noise level was acceptable compared to last year. -Problems with Notch 8 dining. I set up business lunch for 4 and we were crunched for time. The food took over 45 minutes to arrive and food delivery quality was extremely poor. The sandwiches were extremely dry and found an insect mixed with my salad and colleagues received food under cooked. Furthermore, I desperately needed wifi connection but was unable to connect to it at the restaurant. This ended my business meeting during lunch not an ideal situation. Will not return to dining here ever again. -Service at some parts of the hotel was outstanding. Housekeeping kept supplies well in stock and room was serviced promptly. Turn down service was well done. After years of booking at this property, I will not be returning. I will be changing business bookings to Marriott where Platinum/Titanium guests do not have to fight with front desk. Seems like Accor that took over Fairmont has taken away many of its amazing core benefits and changed to revenue driven model than unparalleled service. Platinum, business and event planners be aware; it is not what it used to be.

Whilst my 3 day stay in the hotel Fairmont was exteremly classy and stylish with all the Dior and Gucci stores inside the hotel I was let down by the arrangement of the accessble shower. The shower seat was EXTREMELY FAR AWAY from the actually shower head,so when the shower was on,I was so far back that the water didn't even reach me!!! The shower was badly designed so the seat was unusable for me and unsafe to use whilst on my own in the room. The sink was high aswell and I had difficulty getting my hands into the basin to wash hands, face and teeth etc. All other things in the room where upto the standard of which I was led to believe. I had enquired about the swimming pool which looked amazing,my room overlooked the pool which was on the roof but didnt overlook downtown and it was set on a roof of a lower building in the property. I had breakfast once in maybe days, everything you might ever had wished for was there to pick from.....coffee tea fresh fruits chefs made a massive display of the mornings cooking and did a great job indeed. Bar staff could have been more people friendly......in my mind bar attendants have to be good with people and chatty, these staff where not and mearly took our drinks orders and had no further conversation with us. Checking and and out was pain free,no problems what so ever. The procedure of coming and going from the hotel was frustrating as all exits and entrances I found had steps so this was annoying and embarrassing for me and no staff helped once with doors etc which would have been appreciated so much. The location is fantastic!! Close to 'happening bars and cool spots' to drink coffee and people watch. Sephora makeup store is within a gentle 8 or 9 min walk,I visited once and bought several things which I cant buy at home in Ireland. Go to A&W for breakfast, its again very close by and if your like me and live your 'Root Beer' you'll b big fan, also there coffee is really good to.

The classics with a touch of modern.

Location location location - can't beat it for a BIG CITY hotel with class, charm and character. Close to bag loads of shopping, numerous cultural entertainment, sky train access via the airport is simple and painless.....no need to drive. Hotel has a great pool, gym and shops - if staying on the "Gold" floors, is in the budget, do it. The GOLD level staff and amenties were excellent. One draw back - for a lounge the seating is low for almost ever guest we saw....there's plenty pillows to make ones self comfi. Room was lovely and cozy - excellent remodel. All in all, a great place to stay for any occasion - we took in the Opera at Queen Elizabeth Theater, shopped 'til we dropped, spend some leisure time at Clover Salon and had a great mother/daughter vacation. Thank-you!
