    Not So Good Experience

The Not So Good: If you are planning an excursion, do not buy it from Troy at JTL (Jamaican Tours Ltd). Unbeknownst to me I thought all tours were book with any one of the representatives in the lobby. So I went up to Troy with a brochure that was in our room and told him I wanted to purchase 4 tickets for the Black River and Appleton Rum Combo. I paid him the $404 and three days later we were on the bus taking us to YS Falls then the tour of Appleton Rum. I told the tour guide that this is not what I signed us up for because my daughter-in-law is three months pregnant. We had no choice but to continue on this tour. When we got back Troy was not working however the person who was working for the company call him on the telephone, and I told him what happened. I said the tour you sent us on is not even in the brochure. He said this is the tour you asked for, we went back and forth, it was determine that the brochure I had was for a different company, which when I was signing up he just wanted the sale and did not tell me the tour I wanted they did not have. He ended up yelling at me on the phone, and I was just like WOW this is how you treat people? They ended up sending a mini rum cake to our room! So please do not give Troy your business. The other thing is the beach in front of the Zilara is all huge rocks, you will need to go to Ziva's beach to swim.

    Lovely resort with so-so beach

A beautiful, well-maintained property with delicious food and drinks. Close to MoBay airport, so no long bus ride. With one exception, we received excellent service from all the staff. Two very nice pools (a bigger one at Ziva, which is the family side), a few hot tubs, and plenty of loungers. We especially liked the fire pits which were lovely to sit in with a drink after dinner. Clean, comfortable rooms. Lots of marble in the large bathroom. Diverse food options, and portions are admirably restrained. We were able to have appetizers in one place, and then move on to another for main plates. Our favourite dinner spot was FuZion, which does Asian food. The peanut soba noodles were to die for. Urban Heat was our fave breakfast spot, and Jerk Hut was great for lunch. Delicious coffee. The wines that are included are basic but decent enough, and for those who want to upgrade, there is an impressive selection of bottles for purchase, including Caymus and Stag's Leap. The free sparkling wine is a Spanish tank method fizz that, again, is basic but decent. According to one of the bartenders, it's what they pour the most of. Perfect for mimosas. We found it baffling that during evening turn-down service our hand towels were removed, despite hanging up, and were not replaced. That wastes water with unnecessary laundry, plus it was really irritating. Also, despite the website talking about cooking demonstrations and other cultural activities on the property, we saw no announcements about these. Poolside activities included beer pong, which was another head-scratcher. An adults-only resort, mostly full of people who were over 30, and many over 50, doing a Daytona Beach college student spring break thing? Disturbing. While we did not use the fitness centres, we walked through them and were impressed with the high quality of the equipment and the space. We would have liked to see a time limit on people putting towels on lounge chairs. We saw towels that sat on chairs all day without anyone sitting down. Small beach with rocks in the water, so water shoes are a good idea. One of the things we liked best was the coffee shop/smoothie bar/ snack station in the front lobby. Genius idea. PotionZ is a lovely little bar just off the lobby that would have been a nice place to dance in the evening except that it was as cold as a meat locker. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and would recommend the resort

The good: The food is the best you will ever have at any all-inclusive. We ate at every restaurant, our favorite was The Fusion, try ala carte and the wok, fresh and delicious! Make sure you try all the restaurants at Ziva too! We had a Butler's Oceanfront one bedroom suite on the second floor. After we checked in, we asked to be moved because it really was not oceanfront, they moved us to the 4th floor, which was somewhat better. The butlers, Gary and Latoya were great and friendly.

Having never been to Jamaica before, we were pleasantly surprised with everything. The Hyatt Zilara facility and staff were outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and felt it was a great value. We will definitely be returning.

My fiancé and I stayed at the Hyatt Zilara from December 23 , 2019 -January 2, 2020. Check in was a bit of a kerfuffle. We booked an ocean front room, but were advised they had no record of us having booked an ocean view room. After insisting and showing our reservation, we were accommodated with a pool view and partial ocean view at a distance. The pool area was okay, but we had to get up very early in the morning (5:30 am) to get chairs, otherwise we wouldn’t have chairs for the day. And we had to do the same for the beach chairs. We were advised that if we paid for butler service ($100 per day), we would be assured that the chairs would be reserved for us. And why would we pay that when we had already paid $12,000 for nine days, and “supposedly” for a five star resort! In regards to the restaurants, for some we couldn’t get in for dinner or had to wait 1.5 - 2 hours and reservations weren’t allowed. The food was good, but nothing special. The wines included in the all-inclusive were mediocre, and we weren’t offered a selection, unless we paid extra. All the restaurants had the same menu everyday. The shower head in our room was broken, so we had to get that fixed! Not sure why this wouldn’t have been checked before occupancy?! This resort is not a five star resort!!!
