    ANOTHER EXCEPTIONAL EXPERIENCE

    WOW! Where do we start... We arrived with friends who have never been to Cozumel before. We always like to bring first timers to this resort because of the experience. This resort had just opened back up 3 days prior after nearly 8 months of being shut down due to Covid. Let me say that we were very excited to see that they had brought back their "A-Team", and boy were they happy to see travelers again. It took them all a couple days to get things back up to normal with the precautions that were in place to keep us free from the virus. It was impressive and exciting to see this transition. The restaurants have adapted very well to the pandemic and have implemented very creative ways to keep their buffets running with many grab-and-go options available. Temperature checks and hand sanitizer are a standard practice when entering any of the restaurants and masks are highly encouraged as well. This is also a standard throughout Cozumel. As far as the staff, each one deserves recognition, but here are those fine people who really stood out and went out of their way to provide ourselves and our friends the best possible Cozumel experience are. Benjamin, Millie, and Jesus are outstanding activity directors! They are sociable, funny, and overall fun to be around. Millie was extra kind and made my wife a special bracelet. Justino, Ivis, Victor, and Francisco are phenomenal bartenders. These guys have been with the resort for a few years and it is crystal clear that they still love their jobs. Cristal and Crisly are some of the greatest waitresses we have experienced anywhere! They know exactly what everyone likes to drink and what condiments, add-on's we like with breakfast and lunch. They never fail!! Cristal and restaurant Captain Luis also helped us out when we brought in our fish that we had caught from a morning fishing trip. They brought out the Chef (can’t recall his name but he also needs huge recognition. Cristal or Luis can point him out.) who turned our catch of the day into a gigantic culinary masterpiece that we had the privilege of sharing with a newly engaged couple we met on the resort. We are proud to call each one of these incredible people our friends. In turn, I think they would call us “family”. Due to the reduced occupancy from opening back up, they have modified their array of nightly shows. Instead they have chosen to bring in live music from Priscilla and Charlie 3-4 times per week. They are exceptional and we made friends with them as well. Our only complaint with the resort is the dock fees at are charged for pickup and drop-off. I make mention of this in every review as I don’t feel they are appropriate. The guy (Pro Dive employee) who was monitoring the dock alerted us that we needed to pay dock fees of $3.00 each after returning from our fishing trip. He showed me the fee on his clipboard. I told him that I would need to run up to the room to get some cash and that I would bring it down in a bit. As I was heading back to the dive shop to pay the fee just minutes later, one of the activity directors told me that he had told her that I owed them money. I said yep, I’m on my way. When I got to the dive shop counter, they gave me incorrect change and then tried telling me that the dock fee was $3.50 each. I said nope, the employee showed me that is $3.00 on his clipboard. This was disappointing to say the least so, my recommendation is to stay away from Pro-Dive. With that said, our overall experience was once again fantastic! We stayed a total of 16 days and had 2 more couples join us during this time who were overly impressed. The Barcelo slogan this year is “We care about you” and they really showed it by living up to this commitment every minute of the day. If you are scrolling through the reviews trying to decide where to stay for your vacation, look no further. Book today and don’t hesitate to tell any of the staff members we have mentioned above that we recommended you to the Occidental. Lastly, please keep in mind that the incredible people of Cozumel have been out of work with zero income for upwards of 8-months and that Cozumel economy is driven nearly 100% by tourism. Many locals have used nearly all their reserves and are struggling to scrape by. There are 6 soup kitchens on the island, and they would love your donations. Town is safe as usual, which is why we venture out nightly for local food. They do not disappoint, and the food is incredible! TIP generously and even take some extra to reward those who really stand out. They are worth every penny and much, much more. Mike & LeighAnn Scofield Loveland, CO

    During my vacation stay here I was impressed with all of the staff. Cozumel was hit hard with storms and interrupted ferry service, the staff were still smiling and very friendly. And I was greatly impressed with Kinga the FC manager with her helping me and my friends. I will be coming back to Occidental Cozumel!

    They had just re-opened on October 30, 2020 and we were there on November 7th. Everything was spotless and very clean. All of the staff were very accommodating and helpful. Everyone is delighted to be working and were very attentive to anything that we needed. Beautiful resort and this was our first stay at this resort.

    Arrived 2 days after opening to friendly staff who did their very best considering past hurricanes and Covid restrictions. The food was great, staff very kind even though the weather was unpredictable. HUGE shout out to Benjamin and Millli at the pool. Jesus as well, they brought cheery faces and entertained us all. The staff at the beachside lunch location also exceptional. Live music was 5 star. The resort was getting back up and running and they did their very best, I will return again for sure. Mostly to see Benjamin, he is super at his job.

    Stay away. If you do have a membership with Occidental their First Club is terrible Why I have to waste my time with a 200 word minimum is beyond me. I can do it it one. Terrible. It wants more. Occidental and their First Club at this resort was also Terrible
