Great two weeks in Grand Palladium

Recently we returned from Grand Palladium Kantenah after spending two weeks there. The resort is very good and the weather was perfect which made great vacation. Here is our impression of the resort. The grounds. Grounds are beautiful. Rooms are in several three storey villas located in a jungle. There are paths connecting the villas to the beach, restaurants, swimming pools etc. The paths are somehow convoluted, so the resort provides transportation by a sort of electric trains. This however could be improved by creating set routes and perhaps a schedule. Once we have to wait in a “train stop” close to the spa and none appeared. But overall it works okay. The Kantenah is just one part of the resort. The Colonial is close to the Kantenah. A little further is the White Sands – obvously a newer part. Furter yet is The Royal Suites (TRS). Not sure if Kantenah guests can access TRS. When we walked along the shore to the TRS part with our wristbands, we were asked to leave. There is a Spa and well equipped gym located at some distance to the lobby. Access to the gym is included. There are lots of various animals in the resort. They include flamingoes, racoons, agouti, iguanas, domestic cats and even crocodiles in a fenced area. The room. Our room (“deluxe” = basic) was obviously not new but very clean and elegant. Bathroom with a shower/bathtub combination. Large TV set. Minibar. Safe. Balcony with two chairs and small table. No bathrobes or slippers. Air conditioning was working fine but only when somebody was in the room. The same applied to the lights and some electric plugs. So, for example a laptop left connected to a charger did not charge during our absence. Not sure how it was technically done. There was Wi Fi with quite decent speed not only in a room but everywhere in the resort including the beach. The food. There are two buffets in Kantenah/Colonial (La Hacienda, and Tikal) but looks like only one was open at a time. Sometimes we had to wait a few minutes for a table. The service was pretty good. Food selection sufficient but not outstanding. There is also a smaller, more elegant and quiter buffet in White Sands area with the same food selection. For lunch there was another buffet close to the swimming pool with good selection and good, friendly service. There are 8 a la carte restaurants and there is no need (or possibility, as we found out later) to make reservation. Wait time before being seated varied from zero to 15 minutes. Only two restaurants required reservations: the seafood and the Japanese (and for a hibachi table only). The food and service varied from excellent (Japanese, Ribs and More), to poor (seafood) and very poor (Spanish “La Lola”). We are tea drinkers and found that tea selection was very limited. Also, most a la carte restaurants had problems with hot water. Last night in la Hacienda (the buffet) water had very intense chlorine smell and was not drinkable. We didn't find a lobster in a menu in any of the restaurants. The beach. One of the best beaches in resorts that we had stayed in the area. Some rocky patches but a number of places with nice sandy bottom for swimming. Many people snorkeling. We tried, saw some fish, but nothing spectacular. We were always able to find lounge chairs, sometimes as late as 10:30 AM. Palapas providing a shade. The activities. There are various activities through a day, mostly located near the swimming pool and the beach area. Among others they include stretch/yoga class, zumba, aquafit, volleyball, dance lessons etc. They are organized by a group of enthusiastic young employees, very friendly and with good English. We only remember the name of one of them, Andrea, but many others were equally good. Water sports. We are sailing enthusiasts so we were very interested in catamarans. Water Sports are outsourced to an external company and not a part of the hotel. We were able to sail almost every day. During days with high winds and big waves they didn't gave any water equipment which is understandable. Such idle time could be spent fixing the equipment but it wasn't the case. Catamarans are definitely in need of repair. Rental rules were somehow foggy. Generally, they gave catamarans for 30 minutes slots. The demand varied. On same days all three catamarans were quite busy, on some others only one was sailing from time to time. Opening hours are not clear. Somewhere between 11 AM and 3 PM. They have a strange requirement that a photo id had to be left in Water Sports when a boat was taken and returned when the boat was returned. We didn't intend to drive in Mexico so the only piece of id we had was our passports. Seemed a bit strange to carry the passport to the beach and leave it at Water Sports. Collateral ?. The entertainment. Theatre shows were quite good but a bit repetitive. On most days, the same group of talented dancers, some of them with acrobatic skills, were dancing wearing colorful costumes to different music according to the theme of the night. On one night a rock band performed playing and singing classic rock pieces. On the other night a live horse appeared on the scene! Apart from the theatre performances one can find live music, good for dancing, mostly in the Colonial lobby area. The resort is quite lively at the evenings, compared to other nearby resorts. Class society. In a resort apart from “the common people” (like us) are privileged classes. Members of some “Travel Club”, guests residing in TRS section, etc. For example, the driver of electric cart refused to take “normal” guests when he had TRS guests. Some premium drinks in restaurants were grouped together and marked “For Members Only” etc. Some could make reservations to restaurants that didn't require reservation, etc. Slightly annoying, but nothing major. For a number of years in a row, we stayed in Barceló Maya complex situated a few kilometers. This time, after reading reviews we decided to try something new (and slightly less expensive). We are not regretting our decision. Barceló may be slightly better is some areas but we had a wonderful two weeks in Grand Palladium. Considering returning there

We had a good time at your resort! We had plenty to do and did not get bored ever. Food was good and the drinks were good. Apart from some of the girls sorting out availability at the restaurants were not the most efficient but it did not dampen our time. The following staff at the grand polladium colonial/ kantenah are brilliant and should be rewarded! They made the holiday 5 stars! Entertainment Staff members: adrianna, Omar, Andy, celeste, larissa and matty were brilliant! Sports centre : Oliver! Bar Staff : Luis in Las olas and young Eduardo who was working the fire party! We would highly reccomend this resort to anyone in the future. :)

Dont bother to come if you are not a travel club member

I see that Grand palladium replies to the reviews so here are my questions first- 1) Why are there only carts and trolley for TRS travel club members. They plainly refuse to provide ride if you are lost with 2 little kids in the dark in forest zone . They stop , give you directions and say sorry we can give you ride you are not member . There is something called courtesy and empathy . Please train your staff . 2) Why are there no signs of directions in the resort ,especially at intersections. Every day we met so many people lost and struggling to find directions . Your staff does not know the directions either so they are not of much help . 3) Does your staff check the bed sheets or pillows before giving it to the people . I asked for extra pillow and blanket and the pillows smelled horrible as if a rat died on them . Please answer to my these 3 questions . Now to my review- This is our 3rd time in Cancun , 6th all inclusive vacation and 1st time in Grand palladium . The resort is good , food is good , rooms are good but the culture and the Vibe is completely off. Every moment you are made to feel that if you are not a travel club member you do not belong here. We were lost in the resort and accidentally ended in the travel club part of the resort . 2 people came running to us and asked us to get out of that area . We tried to walk out but again got lost in the maze and ended up in the same zone . They came again and asked us to go out . It was hot and sunny and my 2 kids were loosing patience and were frustrated after 1 hours walk to nowhere . There was a trolley with the driver and we said can he drop us out of this zone because we are lost . The answer was sorry we cant this is for members only . Next day in the night we had booked for Restaurant Posideon. Again we got lost as there were no directions and the staff does not know the right directions either so they confuse you even more . This was at 8:00 pm in the night and we ended on beach . We could see the restaurant on the shore line but could'nt walk through the beach because it was pitch dark and the beach is rocky and very narrow . Many trolleys came , we told them we are lost since one hour , they sympathised but none of them gave us ride, they drove back empty. They even asked us to walk along with our kids to the restaurant from the beach side. Finally we took out our camera and started the recording and then they gave us ride to the restaurant . The whole experience in Palladium was so bad that my 10 year old started saying Mommy can we please get membership , we are not treated well here if we are not TRS member . Please stay away from property if you are not a travel club member.

This hotel was not our first choice, we were let down by our holiday provider so my husband chose this hotel, we travelled as a group of 3, we took my mother-in-law for her 80th birthday. I was not looking forward to going as much as I wanted to be after reading some reviews, take them with a pinch of salt! When we arrived at the hotel, our first impression was how big, clean and beautiful the reception/ bar areas were, we were checked in very quickly, our cases were taken to our room also very quickly. The rooms may need a little bit of an update but they are very clean and more than sufficient, comfortable and very big. The wild life is amazing here, we had long nosed raccoons visiting us this was fab, absolutely lovely. The food is very good and you can use any of the restaurants in any of the hotels all excellent quality. Drinks were labelled brands and lots of places to get drinks and such friendly, helpful staff, always smiling. The entertainment was excellent, during the day there was live music whilst having lunch and in the evening you were spoilt for choice with stalls to get gifts, live stage shows, music, singers in other bars, sports bar for the footy( food and drink served here)all in all my opinion was changed after the first day. I would highly recommend this hotel and may return again in the future, my mother-in-law loved every minute of the holiday and wants to return next year. Thank you, please congratulate your staff for such an excellent service.
