Every thing in the resort was an average, Arrived in Nov 2019 in this resort. Upon arrival there was no beach towel in the room, in the morning asked the room services for beach towels and she said she put it in the room herself last night, meaning i have done some thing with towels!!!. While there is a charge for not returning the beach towels, i had to argue with them and the front desk to get the beach towels which is odd....Mini bar was supposed to be full but there was an open wine, 1/3 full in the mini bar, expecting us to have a flat red and used wine i guess, lol.. Not too variety of food which is normal for Cuban resorts and not expecting more, but the grill bar beside the beach was small and never got a chance to eat there. The pool area was nice. Will never go back.

One thing people need to understand when they go to Cuba is that the resorts are not privately owned, they are heavily regulated by the government and there are often shortages of supplies, whether that be food, drinks or maintenance supplies. This, along with the disaster that is the Trump government, is only making things much harder for Cuba. However, the staff clearly do the best they can with what they are given and are, by far, the most genuinely sincere people I have ever met. My boyfriend and I got to chat with Maday, Richard and others at the beach bar, Javier, Sumi and others at the lobby bar as well as staff at the buffet. Getting to know these people, the way they live, and giving back to their communities through tips (money as well as other supplies!) made our time here that much more enjoyable. We had just recently travelled to Mexico so yes, I recommend not going here with the same expectations you might have at a Mexican resort, but, this resort has all that you need - buffet, daily entertainment, multiple bars, a la carte restaurants, an amazing beach, and very pleasant staff. So, moral of the story, don't be a trophy wife Tracy expecting things that are clearly out of the staff's control or a Karen complainer who wants to speak to the manager every time her minibar isn't refilled and I promise you will have a nice, relaxing time! I even got sick on our last day here and I can tell you that that doesn't change what I have to say about this resort - like I said, it was out of the staff's control and I could have gotten sick anywhere - even back home in Canada. My boyfriend and I came to Cuba for the beaches and the cultural experience which we definitely got with our stay here.

    50th Birthdays

We stayed for 4 nights at this hotel for our 50th birthdays, two hour private transfer following on from a stay in Havana. Its a pretty spacious and well set out hotel with four restaurants, buffet area and various bars, including a swim up pool bar, beach bar snack areas. Entertainment day and night was quite good, our stay was early season and less guests so there was always room to sit of an evening and plenty of room around the pool. There is a nightclub at the harbour (10min walk) and the hotels arrange a night out there by bus on Tuesdays, nothing spectacular but worth going for the band and a dance. We arrived at the hotel early afternoon and after a short sales pitch to upgrade (we didn't) we were shown to our room. Cuba itself often has shortages of items we take for granted, we knew this before our trip but the staff and locals adapt well to this, so some of the complaints on here can be a little petty, all things considered. That being said, i had read about some thefts of flip flops etc from the beach areas, we left our hotel towels on the beach beds in front of the security guard and walked the 15m to the sea only for one of the towels to be taken, the hotel charge 15CUC per towel and there is now way around this charge. We didn't see the upgraded rooms/areas but there are no complaints about the area we stayed.

We went for my husbands 40th birthday and it was a disaster as soon as we stepped off the bus. We had a group of 7, we were all separated. Our room had bed bugs. We spend hours arguing with the hotel staff about moving rooms. Finally the next room they put us in had an overflowing toilet, constantly. We had to wear shoes every time we went in there. Our solo traveler was in a building far away from ours on the mail floor, her front door and patio doors couldn't lock. We had to create barricades so she would feel safe sleeping alone. They sent maintenance to look at it, he flicked the lock a couple of times and then left and said it doesn't work! After spending a min of 2 hours out of each of my days there, they finally moved us into 'better' rooms (this was on day 3). They ran out of alcohol each day. To the point we ended up having to buy upgraded drinks. We were told they would compensate us for certain drinks, they did not. All drinks were on our bill at the end of the stay. We tried disputing this, but ended up having the bar manager yelling, swearing and threatening us, to the point that I was scared! We ended up paying out of fear and we just wanted to get on the bus and leave. Not once during the 7 days we were there did a manager come speak with us to apologize for any of our issues. We waiting each day with our Hola Sun reps for a manager to show up and nothing. The reps were so frustrated they wrote their own complaint!. The only time we saw a manager (and pretty quickly) is when we were disputing our bill. This was not a 5 start by any means. Don't waste your money here, stay away from this resort.

:( was hoping for royal service treatment (don’t fall for it)

So disappointed as we upgraded to Royal Service. Talked our friends into joining us. We were embarrassed as they also splurged expecting something different from regular service. It started with our room, wasn’t ready upon our arrival at 1:00pm. Ok. We understand. But soooooo many 20 minutes later (repeatedly) as we waited in our travel clothes and by 5:00 we were finally placed in a non Royal Service room where the door lock didn’t work. So after losing one day we spent the next morning trying to sort out the room situation. By 5:00 the next day we were moved to the royal service area (thank you broken door lock). Our friends next room flooded so they had to spend more time packing up again and moving. This is Royal Service???? We had a butler.....sounds important right? Well we hardly saw here. Yes she was lovely. However the only help she provided was making dinner reservations which I believe isn’t really a luxury. I hate to be a whiner......look at my reviews. I travel a great deal, and I know what to expect....and what not to expect. Royal service at the beach was non existent.....no service unless you walked to the bar, they were very friendly, but again, likely the same in the regular service area. We wanted service!!! That’s what we paid for :( We had zero royal treatment and truly regret not booking in the regular rooms, the only difference on this side is that is a quiet area. The resort is very big so to go to the regular area which is beautiful as well but much more lively....and a bit of a walk. If you are going with friends you will lose time looking for them.. The resort is gorgeous I have to say, as well as the beach, but again, as I travel the Caribbean few times a year, I will NOT come back to this one....I felt so bad convincing our friends to join us and spend the extra money. We were in Paradisus Holguín in March where it was much more enjoyable, quaint and treated like we mattered (in non Royal Service room). We will definitely NOT be back. I tried to ignore the negative reviews but sadly have to join them. Also, please note this resort is at the end of the line so your shuttle will stop at many resorts along the way before you get to yours....not to mention you wait for them all to board the bus...just saying. Ok done with this one. Planning our January trip, and it sure won’t be here!!!
