    Amazing Resort - Loved It!

This resort is absolutely gorgeous! Being greeted with an ice cold towel and glass of champagne upon arrival was the perfect introduction to Secrets Playa Mujeres. Check in through the preferred club was quick and our luggage was waiting for us when we got to our room. The preferred club staff was incredibly kind and helpful with anything we needed. I needed to see a doctor while on our trip and Dr. Vega was awesome. She made two trips to our room, had everything I needed, and checked on me a few times to make sure everything was okay. I can't thank her enough. Our preferred club room was beautiful and the view of the ocean between the palm trees was incredible. We looked forward to getting in the tub on the balcony in the evening and after a night of dancing at the Dreams discotheque. The view and the light breeze made it easy to wind down together and take it all in. The pools are beautiful and the swim up bar was always on the agenda but my favorite place to be was the Bali beds on the beach. If we didn't get one early, they'd put our name on the list and we'd often have one within a couple of hours. Lying next to each other on the beds, drinks close by (and always full), was the most relaxing way to spend time. If you're not going to use the Bali beds right away, be sure to bring a personal item to leave behind until you return. Don't forget to bring your insulated cups! They'll make drinks right in them. Martha, Nadia and Ross were so kind and offered the best service. Martha's smile lights the place up! After reading reviews here, we looked forward to meeting her. She lives up to the hype. We started our mornings with coffee at Coco Cafe where the service was always great. The ladies there are so nice, and service was quick! We enjoyed lunch at the Seaside Grill, where we had views of all the shenanigans at the pool. Dinner at Portofinos, Bordeaux, Oceana and Fusion at Dreams were all great. We were never disappointed. We ended each night with dessert and coffee at one of the restaurants, but kept going back to Portofinos for the tiramisu and other desserts. Our waiter was so kind and even took pictures for us after dinner. Capturing that moment meant a lot to me. In the evenings there was live music around the resort and wild shows in the theatre. Silent Disco was ridiculously fun. If you're on the fence, just do it. It's worth the experience and memories. On our last day, we did the hydrotherapy session for an hour. The spa is beautiful and the hydrotherapy was at once invigorating and calming. I only wish we'd had more time! This resort was so much more than I expected. It was fun, relaxing, and beyond romantic. Absolutely perfect. Everything we needed it to be in each moment. I can't wait to return!

Room - We stayed in a Preferred Club Junior Suite during the first week of November. The room was very comfortable. Housekeeping was prompt and everything was stocked timely. The evening turn down service was a very nice touch. It had a whirlpool both in the bathroom and on the balcony. We really took advantage of the one on the balcony. While there wasn't a lot of counter space, the bathroom was more than adequate. The views from the room were great. On one of our last days, we had breakfast delivered to the balcony and it exceeded expectations. The AC kept up with us for the entire stay. We didn't encounter any issues. We used the room safe everyday to keep excess cash and valuables. Safekeeping larger items in luggage with travel locks worked well. At no point did we feel like our belongings were at-risk of being taken. Property - It was beautiful. We really appreciated the attention to detail. It was well cared for. We never waited more than a few minutes for a golf cart to take us to Dreams or the lobby area. Everywhere we went, it was quiet and tranquil. The pool area got appropriately lively during the day. The same can be said for Dreams. Mosquitoes were a slight issue. I was bitten 8-10 times during our stay. That said, I never felt like I needed to use the repellent we brought with us. Preferred Club - This was well worth the upgrade and I wouldn't go without this. The Bali beds were amazing. The beds alone were worth it. We spent the majority of out mornings down there. Our Hydro Flask rocks cups were always full and the cold washcloths made our days. We used the Preferred Club lounge more than we had expected. The staff was always kind. It was a great respite when getting off the golf cart from another location. Having a restroom, top shelf, bar, small bites, timely bottles of water, and some kindness were always appreciated. Staff - When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by a bellhop and a lady with champagne and washcloths. We knew we chose the right place. Everywhere we went, the staff was kind and accommodating. They truly made the trip special. Martha, Ross, and Nadia provided incredible service. I never felt like there was anything they wouldn't do to make our stay the best it could possibly be. By the second day, they greeted us by name and knew our room numbers. Additionally, I'd recognize Carlos at Bordeaux for his outstanding service. Food and Drinks - I really liked the food. The menus were abbreviated but methodical. Some of the service was slow, however, the evening meals felt like events. We weren't in any hurry and it lent to a feeling of just being present in the moment. Portofino, Bordeaux, and El Patio were great. We found ourselves going to dinner and stopping by Portofino afterward for limoncello, tiramisu, and americanos each night. Nearly every day, we eat at Oceana for breakfast. The menu was complete and it was a great way to start the day. We'd typically get eggs benedict, orange juice, coffee, and mimosas. Service was outstanding. For lunch, we'd wander from the bali beds to the Seaside Grill. The fish tacos and ceviche always hit the spot. Before retiring to our room to get ready for dinner, we would visit the swim up bar where we were always taken care of. The drinks were a little inconsistent depending on where you went and who was serving you. Overall, we were satisfied with them. Inconsistency is something we'd run into at home as well. We also ate at Fusion at Dreams. We arrived at 415p to get a Teppan table, however, were too late. We ate there regardless in the evening and the food was spectacular. Entertainment - I was pleasantly surprised. We had a blast at the silent disco. I really recommend everyone go for either the dancing or the people watching. We spent a fair amount of time at the discotheque in the evenings at Dreams. The music was adequate and mostly filled with wedding parties. One night, we peeked in on the theater for 30 minutes or so. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the show. The live bands around the property and pools were really good. There was only one that really didn't do much for us. Spa - We took advantage of the hydrotherapy circuit on our last morning there. I wish we had allowed more time for this one. Upon arrival, we were welcomed and truly pampered. Johanna took great care of us and guided us through the circuit. The facility was outstanding and beautiful. She led us through the sauna, plunge pool, steam room, whirlpool, foot spa, and general pool with a variety of different jets and falls. I loved laying in the submerged water lounger with jets underneath. The sauna was a toasty 150F. About halfway through, we laid down and were treated to cucumbers and cool towels over our eyes. It was a great way to end the trip. They had beds and loungers around the pool where we could have chosen to stay for longer. Isla Mujeres - We took a day trip to Isla Mujeres. The taxi only took about 20 minutes to the port. The Ultramar ferry cost about $7 USD round-trip. We were glad to experience some of the culture there. Renting a golf cart was easy and made a huge difference. We each got one hour massages on the beach for $20 USD + tip. Getting back from the port was just as easy. Recap - All in all, I can't say enough about the brand, staff, and properties. We're already planning a far longer trip next year.

My wife and I had a great time at Secrets Playa Mujeres. The location is wonderful, if you like to walk on the beach you can literally walk for kilometres. Two of the restaurants were closed for renovations, however they moved them to other locations in the resort so you can still eat at them, which is a plus. The service was awesome as well, we never had an issue. Some of our favourite staff members were Bernice and Alejandra from the entertainment team, they did a great job and we had a great time with them. Our favourite bartender was Francisco at the swim up manatee's bar, he always remembered us and what we were drinking. Jazmin was our favourite server/bartender she was phenomenal, awesome person! We'd for sure come back to this resort, we had a total blast!

This was the first time for most of my family staying at an all inclusive resort. Also, this was our first vacation using our UVC membership. Everyone in my family had a wonderful time. All of them said they want to come back next year.

I will start this review with this: I had never been to a Secrets resort prior to this one. So if you have, and you LOVE the Secrets "brand" you will probably be okay with this resort. It does still have it's downfalls, but knowing what to expect out of a resort because you've been to a ton of others just like it will soften the blow of the disappointment. Pros: - Gorgeous resort. It is a little worn, so much so we were surprised that it was only 5 years old. But it's still gorgeous. - beach is beautiful. It feels private, even though it's in between two fairly large resorts - pool area is really nice. It has little sections everywhere so you and a group of friends can just kind of corner yourself off to your own area. - The service staff, specifically the bartenders, beach staff, pool staff, and restaurant staff are the saving grace of this resort. Had our service in these areas just been average, we would have been much more vocally disappointed. My favorite example of this was when I really wanted tacos.. which are surprisingly hard to find at this resort and so I asked my lunch server where I could find them. He spoke with the chef at the buffet and they came up with some of the best Al Pastor tacos I've ever had. CONS: - With the exception of the tacos cooked from scratch by the chef and the "Mexican" night they had in the buffet. The food was a let down. At some points it was outright disgusting. We had shrimp tacos at Oceana that were supposed to be grilled, and they were awful. Zero flavor. We ordered room service burgers and chicken taquitos and they were something you'd find in a school cafeteria. The only food that you could get at the pool (unless you went into a restaurant) was hot dogs, hamburgers, and "nachos" with that nasty orange nacho cheese that they call cheddar. I was told by a few people that this was because they "cater to the masses" and not authenticity. - Room Service was HORRIBLE. We had a lot of rain when we were there. So many times, we hung out in the room with the couple that went with us. We called to order beers and were told that the most we could get was 6 per room (so 12 total for the 4 of us) After some initial hesitance from room service they brought it. We asked for the same the next night, and were given the same grief about ordering that number of beer. Eventually they complied but were sure to tell us it was the last time they would do that for us. Then they only ended up bringing 4 total. When I called to ask about other drinks that they could deliver if we didn't want beer, we were told no. No wine, no liquor drinks, nothing but beer. After digging in their tablet they have in the room, I found that you could order wine by the glass, and a glass of orange juice and make yourself a mimosa. - Preferred club was a JOKE. While digging around in the tablet, I found a section for preferred club options. Apparently you're supposed to get a bottle of liquor and upgraded mini-fridge (which kept drinks room temp at best) When I called about this, they asked what kind of bottle I ordered. I was never even offered it. Our friends that were with us weren't either. So I ordered a bottle of Vodka, along with some Club Soda and Lime to make drinks. This was at 10am... The bottle did not come until the next day, our last day, so I was unable to use it. - Mosquitos. They are horrible. I laughed when I saw repellent in the bathroom as we checked in, but the second that we stepped on our patio we were immediately bitten multiple times. We had bites all over our backs, legs, torso, and even our face. Even with using the spray. They had stronger spray in the gift shop but it was expensive. If you choose to come. Bring some strong OFF. And plan to reek of bug spray during your entire stay. - You have to ask for a cold beer. Otherwise it will be just a touch cold. Bring a Yeti cup and kolster. It will SAVE your sanity with keeping beer and drinks cold. All in all, I would not come back to this resort. Nor would I recommend it to anyone else. It's just not worth it. When I visit a foreign country, I expect to find a taste of that culture in the resort. When I pay that much money to visit a place that is supposed to be "Unlimited Luxury" I expect to hear the word "yes" far more often than I hear the word "no" especially when the requests are as simple as beers in our room.
