Not what we expected from Barcelo

This resort is owned by Barcelo, but is not great at all. Sliding doors at patios and closets are almost impossible to move. Drinks at the pool bar are served in very small tumblers and are not well made. Pina Colada, for instance, is made without a blender. Food at this bar is poor, too. The fried chicken isn't bad, but the pizza has almost no topping and the burgers...well, I've seen hockey pucks that are blacker. The dining area is wanting, too. Tables are set with things missing. There may be only 3 glasses, or 3 cups, etc. Food at the hot bar isn't hot. Cold scrambled eggs just don't cut it. Oatmeal varies in consistency, from thick to very, very watery. One day out of seven there was extra oatmeal that you could put in. There was no muesli, granola, or bran or any other finer (muesli appeared one day of 7). Red wine is served ice-cold!!! Food at the special restaurant wasn't much better (although the wine was served at a reasonable temperature). Housekeeping was spotty. At times a shower mat was placed and at others, not. The floor in the room was always gritty and never seemed clean. Flowers on the bed, when they appeared, were a nice touch. The grounds are well maintained. There appears to be an effort to upgrade, but starting with tiling the pool area might have been the wrong sequence. We did notice a pile of new sliding doors, so that may well be addressed soon.

Good value for money. All inclusive. Relaxing. Friendly staff members.Tasteful drinks. Food at the buffet is simple but natural. Avoid the a la carte restaurant (very bad). The resort is 20 minutes walk to town. Reasonable fitness center (needs more attention and longer opening hours).

A 2 day getaway. Awesome beach but lots of big rocks in front of the resort. Surfers nearby where a river enters the ocean. Pool is nice. Employees friendly EXCEPT entertainment staff. No was there answer if you could even find them. Rude summarizes them. All-inclusive - the buffet was quite good (much better than last year). Adequate room - clean, quiet, convenient... but it took four tries to get and the lock continued to cause problems. Stained towel. Electric outlets didn’t work. Frig would not cool drinks. Good security and safe parking. A lot of tiles being installed - floors and walls (someone is watching too much HGTV - hire a quality designer next time)

    Not worthy

Disliked · Well well lots to say. At the time of my check in no bellboy helped us with our luggage, I was having a little jump out weekly stress with my partner and we got a two bed room at the most distanced building, amenities were not provided (we paid for premium bracelets) not even internet connection were provided. We called and we were transferred to a different room near restaurants and Pool. Later on room service attendant came to the room and deliver a cheap wine bottle (not the sparkling wine the premium level promised). At the end we didn’t notice any difference of paying $30 p.pax per night. We were never recognized and not other level of service were provided either. Pd. Please provide extra effort on the ballet and dance (I’m a dancer) so I now they love what they do but they don’t have all the tools they need. Definitely not recommend staying.

I have stayed at the Occidental Tamarindo (Barcelo) several times over the past 2 years now and I enjoy going to this resort because it is very relaxed and fun. The food is good with a selection of options; there are a wide variety of drinks to choose from; the rooms are well equipped and comfortable and most face the ocean; there is entertainment every night; there is a pool in the centre of the resort that is very large and clean; there’s a spa for us girls and a gym for the boys; and also a snack bar with hamburgers, french fries, salads, fresh fruits, etc., and cerveza or beverages to order! The beach is very beautiful and when there is low tide, you can cross the river and land on a beautiful, almost secluded, white sand beach that goes for miles! Many surfers go to this beach to surf and it's fun to see them hit the waves! There is a Professional Lifeguard on duty at the resort all day, every day, and he (his name is Greddy) makes sure everyone is safe on the beach and at the pool. The resort staff is very friendly...big shout-out to Carlos and Capi two excellent servers, Joaquin the Entertainment Director, Jerricka and Mauricio from the Entertainment team, Eider in Maintenance who helped change a burnt bulb in my room, Aaron in Food and Beverage, Mayer and Liester, the Security Guards ... sorry if I forgot someone! ... whatever you need, you can ask them and they will help you always with a smile. Oh and I must mention that the sunset at the resort is to die for! It's so beautiful, and every night everyone gathers to watch the sunset on the beach! You can also book tours from the resort, go see the lady named Jusy (she speaks great English!) at her stand next to the pool area ... She has some really amazing tours and you should go and explore Costa Rica ... what a beautiful country it is! I love this place ??
