About as close to heaven as you can get.

We took a family trip to Sonesta in early Dec. I cannot stress enough how beautiful the property is and the staff could not have been any nicer. A few employees who made our trip memorable: Schneider, Gene, Bruce, Tiffany, Cheryl, Fantasia and Sidia. The housekeeping staff and lawn care employees work additionally as hard. The food was very good, but our favorite place to eat was Azure. We visited there many times. The proximity to the airport was nice as well, only a mile. You must experience Maho beach with the planes flying low to the ground and you can with just a few steps to where the planes land on the runway. You get used to them flying in until about 10 or 11pm. St. Martin is a busy place. One day we took a day trip to the 5 beaches in Anguilla and had a really good time. Each stop the sand got a little softer. We never left the beaches so I cannot tell you what lies behind them as far as homes or shopping. Regardless the water is crystal clear everywhere. I personally like seeing what is swimming near me, so St. Martin was perfect. We loved it so much that we plan on going back at some point and I want to check out more of the French side of the island. You will love the Dutch side where Sonesta Oceania is located. All you need is a bathing suit, cover up, comfortable shoes and a few resort casual outfits for visiting the restaurants. Enjoy the 84 degree temps and settle in for a relaxing vacation. You won't be disappointed.

Gorgeous birthday trip to St Maarten

Dana S (Grand Island, New York) on Dec 24, 2025

Recently stayed at the Sonesta Ocean Point and it was truly a dream. The rooms could use a little touch up, but nothing major. Big plus, rooms do not smell damp and musty like many hotels and the hot water was plentiful. Now the good stuff - The location is superb, the view is amazing, pools are quiet and peaceful minus the planes landing but I enjoyed that part! Drinks and food some of the best I’ve had at an all inclusive. Azul is the way to go for quality meals breakfast, lunch and dinner. The best part of this resort was the staff so many great folks working here from the front desk, housekeeping, bartenders and servers, but the ladies at Azul truly made this trip amazing. Special shout out to Siolia, Fantasia, and Maddy Baddy. These ladies worked so hard to make every meal special! These women made Azul a pleasure each and everytime we were there. I can’t say enough wonderful things about them! If you are there be sure to say hi to them and order a baddy! I miss my meals with them. These girls made my 50th birthday amazing!

Excellent stay In OP. Loved the people, food and island.

We stayed at Sonesta Ocean Point in December 2025. We picked this resort based on reviews of location and exceptional food. I am not a drinker, so food was important. From the airport, we took long at the new customs checkin, the line was large and we were at the end, so we missed our bus to the hotel, however we flew with West Jet and the rep (Nexus) quickly got a cab to the hotel and checkin was quick and easy. Our room was on the third floor with a nice view of the ocean and airplanes. (All rooms in Ocean Point have a great view) We ate at Azul and Bluefin mostly everyday and the food did not disappoint. The service, although super friendly with staff getting to know our names, etc was slow! One night was two hours before our main dish arrived. But we are on vacation and didn't let that bother us. Entertainment is sub par. Most "bands" are one or two peice with backing tracks. Although talented, its not the same as a full band. The stage shows were a little lame imo but kids and families seemed to enjoy. Its not the same as Mexico shows which are over the top. People are super friendly there. They will do anything to please. It may take awhile, but they are there to help. Watching the planes from our room, from the beach, restaurants, etc was awesome. Im not a plane lover, but this was truly the highlight of the trip. And as others have said, it really does not get old. Make sure to check out cloud nine in sonesta maho for spectacular views of the airport and planes. They sometimes have entertainment up there as well. I downloaded a flight radar app and it was pretty cool to track planes, where they were coming from, how large, how long a flight, etc. I wouldn't think I would be that person, but it was so much fun! There's a beautiful spot on fourth floor Ocean point building with a bar for sunset lookouts as well. The beach here is somewhat small, with a small area with chairs for sonesta resort. However you can easily walk to where the lendary planes fly over and for Ocean point (OP) guests there's a smaller beach with plenty of chairs by azul restaurant. We tried every restaurant in the resort and our favourite was Azul for breakfast and dinner and Bluefin for Poke bowls. Late night pizza was also a go to for hubby. The Cafe in Maho makes an excellent cappuccino. I didn't find one i liked in OP, but no issue. The only reason I am giving four stars instead of five is for slow service and lack of entertainment. Also they did not have any non alcoholic beers or wines. Which I find strange for this year, but I suppose most people go for booze at AI so not a big deal. Added note, our flight back to YYZ was cancelled through West Jet and they bumped us up in Sonesta Maho for the extra night. We noticed small differences to OP but the main one is the food. With this in mind, for me, I would return to OP and not Maho but depends on your personal preference. There are still great restaurants in Maho side, buffet, Mexican restaurant and Japanese restaurant with sushi but not over the top restaurants like OP side. To me its worth the extra we paid, and I would go back to OP side.

Great time

jessica b (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) on Dec 17, 2025

Our stay was amazing!!!!! The resort is beautiful and the food was absolutely AMAZING!!!! Azul was our favorite restaurant along with Palms. I can honestly say, I have never been to a resort that feed you a 3 course meal for lunch. I was full every day! Room service was also good and the wait time was not long!!! The staff, was pleasant and accommodating. However, the beach attendant, Henry was mean and rude! He took his beach job way too serious. Below are a list of staff that truly made a stay welcoming and enjoyable: Kemar- absolutely amazing, friendly, kind, pleasant and funny. He is a works at the front desk and is a driver. Love his vibe! Charlie- friendly, pleasant and an excellent pourer. He is a bartender (Palms/ Cantina) and definitely was not shy on the drinks. Love his energy and vibe. Rondall- security and was very kind Sidia- amazing server, friendly and accommodating (Azul restaurant) Aderkys and Railey - i dont remember which one is the bartender and which ones works at the front desk but they both were amazing and the bartender drinks are great! Danisha- manager of front desk and she was accommodating

Friends holiday trip

Beautiful resort with amazing room views and a gorgeous beach, though a bit rocky. Azul was excellent, and the adults-only dining was great overall. Bluefin had an incredible view and great food, but they should serve poke bowls for lunch. The family-side food was just okay. Poolside service could be better—having staff come around to take drink orders or a swim-up pool bar would really elevate the experience. Overall, a great stay with a few small areas to improve. Angela was great and helped us out a lot, could not thank her enough for her understanding.
