Just back from a stay at the hotel edison and I was glad to leave it. First impressions are the obby is nice, very busy you have to queue for check in. Receptionist couldn't crack a smile and didn't like when I asked for a breakdown of the resort tax and an explanation of what was included. Warm bottles of water, hit and miss WiFi and drink reception on a Friday evening was what the cost was. Our room was on the 14th floor and while I don't expect anything large for New York, this was very small. The room was in serious need of repair, wallpaper stapled together to hide the mould, bathroom had a mix of various tiles, many covered in mould. The cleaner did her best but the room was in need of redecorating. The noise is terrible, you can hear everything from outside, bring ear plugs with you. The heating didn't work and when we wanted air conditioning it was incredibly loud. The pros of this hotel are its location, less than 2 minutes to times square, close to subway and theatres. Staff were very friendly with the exception of the reception staff we encountered. When checking out they charge $1 per bag to store it for you. I would recommend asking if they have newer rooms and away from any of the construction work.

The hotel met my expectations - the location is perfect

The location is perfect. The room was comfortable and met all expectations. Very comfortable bed, luxurious bathroom. Lots of food options around the hotel, all theaters within a short walk, Central Park within walking distance and there is a nearby metro station that allows access to every area of the city! · The hotel lobby looks more like a Central Bus Station, lots of people at any moment, very noisy I didn't like the fact that a dollar had to be paid for keeping the suitcase while waiting for the room. It's only a dollar, but as a hotel guest I never had to pay money for storing my belongings. The reception staff can provide more courteous service, with a smile and more welcoming. Every little noise outside the room is heard, even from neighboring rooms. The air conditioner in my room was very noisy.

There were four of us: four adults and two booked rooms. The first room was a storeroom: old, small and anything but cosy. In addition, we had the feeling that we were sleeping next to the street or next to the ventilation outside (room 1249). Fortunately, we were able to change this the next day. The new room is a lot bigger and more comfortable, but still very loud from outside, because there is a big ventilation underneath (room 527). The second room was incredibly loud. The built-in air conditioning in the window was not framed with glass at all - as one is used to from a window - but with cardboard ergo, it was incredibly loud with the ventilation from outside (room 323). Then we were offered another room (room 553), which was exactly the same as the above mentioned 1249 only on the 5th floor. After that we were finally offered room 741, which was quieter (compared to the previous one) but unbelievably small. At the end, the reception was totally unfriendly and not helpful at all - we didn't feel taken seriously at all. To finish this off: We wouldn't recommend the hotel in any case, no matter in which room - it is incredibly loud and uncomfortable and small. Even though we only slept in the hotel, the 7 nights for 4 people were very, very expensive for what we experienced! The price/performance ratio is not right at all! An apartment would have been more comfortable, where possible quieter and cheaper. We have now 2 of 7 nights behind us and are completely frustrated!

We loved this hotel, there was so much character. On our arrival night there were live singers and free drinks and snacks. The room that we had was a haven of quiet compared to the busy streets. It is literally just off Times Square so the location could not have been better. We went room only but the place is surrounded by eating places so there is no problem finding somewhere to get breakfast or a meal. We would definitely stay there again.
